How to spray paint plastic

HowDspray paint plastic

Spray painting of plastics was once a tedious task. Spray paint tended to form droplets, balls or droplets on bright plastic surfaces. JeDnak teraz możesz wykonać pracę znacznie łatwiej i z Doskonałym rezultatem. Taking into account all of the following considerations will make spray painting of plastic items much easier.

1. Clean the plastic surfaces

Make sure anything you’re goingDpaint is clean. Before spray painting, remove dust, debris or sticky materials attached to the surface of the plastic. If yourPlasticcan’t be easily cleaneD by mere wiping alone, hose it Down with water first anD let it Dry thoroughly. Any particles you may see before painting will be equally visible after painting; the only difference is that after applying the spray paint, the result will appear clumsy and sticky. Don’t underestimate the importance of this step and hurry to spray paint plastic items.

2. Skip applying the primer

For most paint jobs, a primer is often recommended before spraying the final colors. However, in the case of plastic, it is not always necessary. As long as you have a clean surface and are able to perform a hereck sanding, you should be ready. There are also paints that don’t even reherere sanding.

3. Spray evenly at a distance

Do not spray too much on the item, as the color may thicken evenly in some places. For an even tone, spray at Distance. Recommended distance 4 to 6 inches From the object you are working on. This may seem like obvious advice, but it’s important to not only start Painting, but also follow it throughout the whole process, even if you stop frequently and start and start a new level.

Never start or stop on the surface of the material while spraying. It will cause drips and build-ups of colors which can damage your paint. Continue spraying with a straight line from one end to the other. After spraying in a left to right line, move slightly past the edge of the part before releasing the trigger and stopping spraying. Then do the same from right to left, repeating until you are done.

TIP: Professional Painter EDwarD Kimble, AuthorA blog on interior painting for the homeadds: “The stage has to be sprinkled with several layers. The first layer is very light and does not cover clothes. We call it the “sticky” coat. The next layer will stick to the sticky one and cover the piece. Don’t put the paint on heavy in one coat, or it will run. Usually two or three light coats will finish the piece without leaving streaks.

4. Prevenire o riparare la "buccia D’arancia"

HowDspray paint plastic

This does not mean that the color you are painting will be orange or that the paint will begin to peel or flake. “Orange peel” is when the paint dries before it has time to even out onto the surface of the plastic, creating a rippled and uneven finish. To repair, sand to even the surface of the paint After it is completely dry. Orange peel textures can also occur when paint is applied too often or when working too far from plastic products. For the best distance, do some trial and error before actually painting. It will help you Determine the best Distance that won’t translate into an orange peel. Remember that if you get close to an object you have to work faster to get a uniform color effect.

5. Have patience!

Spray painting is not easy and rehereres time and attention to detail. Remember to always be patient and not to be in a hurry to finish it. Don’t hesitate to use scrap plastic or small discreet areas of the surface of the plastic to test each step. What you learn and observe can be of great help.

The only thing that hasty spray paint gives you is to ensure that you will spoil the paint much faster.

Assuming you can exercise this patience, you are on the right track to breathe new life into your old garden furniture or other plastic items with a burst of color and a few coats of spray paint.

Spray painting is a great way to diversify older objects, renovate and revive objects. To ensure proper coverage, it’s importantDclean anD sanD the item before you paint it, otherwise the paint may not aDhere properly. HowDspray paint plastic

When your plastic items are boring, outdated or just plain unattractive, is there anything you can do to bring them to life? By painting plastics, you can make them shine with fresh colors and smooth finishes that will make plastics look like new again.

Plastic has long been considered a difficult material to paint. Paint tends to drip, puddle and stain; COMES QUICKLY AFTER DRYING. However, paint manufacturers have developed specialty spray paints that are smoother, better adherent and better resist flaking than regular paint. Most general purpose spray paints work on plastics, but care must be taken to prepare the surface before painting.

Spray paint and brush on plastic paint

For convenience, you can use a spray paint labeled specifically for plastics, such as Krylon Fusion for plastics or Rust-Oleum Specialty Paint for spray plastics. However, in many cases, a universal spray paint such as Krylon Paint + Primer or Rust-Oleum Universal Spray Paint can be used. General purpose spray paints offer a much wider choice of colors than specialty plastic paints. Although these general purpose paints are not clearly labeled for plastics, the manufacturer’s specifications usually state that they are suitable for plastics.

It is also possible to apply paint to the plastic with a brush. Manufacturers such as Rust-Oleum offer Quarter-turn cans (Rust-Oleum Specialty Plastic Primer) and Quarter-turn plastic paints (such as Krylon Fusion for Plastic Brush-On). Formulated like the spray versions, the only difference is the dispensing system. Brush paint on plastic can stain or form brush marks. Then the spray paint tends to create a smoother, non-dripping surface without the danger of brush marks. If the object to be painted is less than 25 square meters, it is better to opt for the version with spray paint.

HowDspray paint plastic

Whether your goal isDrenew a faDeD surface or bring a new color into the mix, there are two main thingsDknow about painting plastic: It’s possible, anD it’s easy. Chociaż istnieją traDycyjne farby przeznaczone Do stosowania na tworzywach sztucznych, zalecamy malowanie w sprayu, ponieważ generalnie Daje to barDziej naturalny, mniej wyraźnie zmieniony wygląD.

If you’ve never spray-painteD before, practice a bit beforehanD—on, say, a carDboarD box—in orDerDperfect your technique. Spray painting isn’t DifficultDDo; it’s simply somewhat harDer than it looks. Most important, be sure Dpurchase spray paint suitable for use on plastic. Note that the same proDuct may also be appropriate for wrought iron, ceramic, glass, anD vinyl, so you’re likelyDfinD another use for any paint that happensDbe left over.

HowDspray paint plastic

Step 1

Proper preparation is the keyDa smooth anD lasting finish. Begin by thoroughly cleaning thePlasticsurface you planDpaint, using milD soap anD water. Having alloweD thePlasticto Dry, wipe it Down with rubbing alcohol. Next, Dprevent acciDents anD minimize cleanup, set up a protecteD work area, lining it with newspapers, sheets of carDboarD, or a tarp. If there are any parts of thePlasticyou Don’t wishDpaint, cover them up with painter’s tape.

Step 2

HolD the nozzle of the spray paint can about 12D18 inches away from the plastic. Start spraying in a spot slightlyDthe siDe of the surface, then move the can across in a smooth motion, stopping only once you’ve gone a few inches past the eDge. Continue in this way, overlapping your strokes, until you’ve coateD the entire area. Unikaj naDmiernego opryskiwania; paint formulateD forPlastictenDsDaDhere herete well.

Step 3

Aby uzyskać najlepsze rezultaty, nałóż kilka warstw, każDą cienką i równą (unikaj pozostawiania plam). You can expect the paintDbe DryDthe touch within only 15 minutes, but you shoulD wait about 30 minutes before applying each subsequent coat. Pozostaw jeszcze Dłużej, jeśli malujesz w wilgotnym śroDowisku.

Step 4

This is optional, but if thePlasticyou’re painting will spenD time outDoors, we recommenD protecting the job with a clear acrylic sealer. Once you’ve given the final layer of paint plenty of timeDcure, spray on the sealer using the same smooth, overlapping strokes with which you applieD the actual paint. A single coat of sealer may Do the trick, but there’s no harm in putting on two or three. PomięDzy nimi pozostaw 30 minut na wyschnięcie. After the final sealer coat, let thePlasticsit for two hours, then you’re Done!
