Pastel on the walls is an unfortunate parenting ritual, but cleaning shouldn’t increase the penalty. For an inexpensive and effective way to remove these offensive crayon marks, go to your regular household items and watch them disappear before your eyes. In particular, let the vinegar, this fantastic all-round cleaner, do its job.

Remove the crayon with the vinegar

Vinegar is one of the most effective ways to remove crayons from painted walls. The acetic acid in the vinegar breaks down both the waxy components and the pigments of the pastel marks. If it works on your surface, this chemical reaction can save you a lot of washing power.

To clean the crayon from the walls, dip your old toothbrush in undiluted white vinegar and use it to remove the stain. After removing any irritating crayons, wipe the wall with a clean, damp cloth. If you are worried about the smell of vinegar, don’t worry: when the vinegar dries, the smell will disappear and will not leave any unpleasant odors.

Vinegar is a useful cleaner for many household chores. It is an excellent choice for this task as it is economical, non-toxic and safe on most surfaces.

As with any cleanser, avoid contact with eyes and prolonged skin contact.

Plain (non-gel) toothpaste is a tool that countless parents have used to remove their children’s artwork from walls and even clean up the mess left behind by permanent markers. Toothpaste can help you make sure these marks aren’t permanent, however not on the watch. Just scrub the toothpaste with an old toothbrush or cloth and rinse with water.

Baking soda is a mild abrasive that can also be effective. Dip a damp cloth in baking soda, scrub gently and rinse with a second damp cloth.

Sometimes the obvious answer works: a pencil eraser can do the job with small print. Be very gentle as you don’t want to rub the paint off and use an even lighter touch on the wallpaper. If a regular eraser doesn’t work, an artistic eraser might do the trick.

7 Spring Ways to Clean Blender, Faucets, Vents & More

From eliminating crayon marks from the wall to vacuuming your home from top to bottom, here are seven cleaning options that will help you get through spring cleaning and get back to doing nicer things (basically everything else).

1. Remove the crayon marks on the wall with toothpaste.

Did your kid leave any pastel artwork on the wall? You don’t need to paint. Just take some toothpaste and gently brush it on the crayon with a toothbrush. Gently scrub and then wipe with a clean, damp cloth.

2. Make your blender clean itself well.

Over time, blenders can build up inside. To eliminate it, squeeze the juice of one lime in a blender and add two cups of water. Turn on the blender and let it run for about two minutes. Rinse and the blender will be perfectly clean.

3. Keep water stains from chrome taps with greaseproof paper.

Usually, after cleaning a sink, this chrome faucet only stays spotless for about 60 seconds. As soon as you turn on the tap, splashes and water stains will start to appear, but nothing else! Next time you clean the faucet, scrub it with wax paper. Subtle greaseproof paper residues prevent water stains and fingerprints.

4. Vacuum the exhaust fan in seconds.

Many of us don’t pay attention to the exhaust vents in our bathroom, and if we do, a lot of dust will likely build up over time. Get rid of it with a can of air. Just blow the dust off (but remember to do this before cleaning the floors, the bathtub so you can collect the dust later).

5. Vacuum your home with disposable dry sheets.

Vacuuming is the worst, but it can be done quickly with this trick. Grab a disposable dry cloth (boxes with these are in the hallway to clean floors) and walk around the house, running the sheet over anything that requires vacuuming. Televisions, baseboards, electronics, etc. It will collect dust and be ready in a minute.

6. Remove the scratches from the lacquered shoes.

Patent leather boots have been in vogue in boots for several years, but the downside to this popular shoe is that it wears easily. Fortunately, shoe scratches can be removed with petroleum jelly and a cotton swab. Just dip the Q-Tip in the gelatin and rub it lightly on the scratch. It will disappear in seconds.

7. Remove shoe marks from the floor.

There is no need to polish the floor to get rid of these shoe marks. Just take a pencil eraser. Lightly scrub the scratches with an eraser and your floor should soon look new.

Jolie Kerr is a housekeeping expert, advice columnist, and author of the best-selling book The New York Times, My boyfriend burned in my purse. And Other Things You Can’t Ask Martha . Her flagship column, “Ask a Clean Person,” debuted in 2011. Here on Offspring, we’re launching a new iteration of it, focusing on parenting and all the messes it brings.

I have a child, he is three years old, he likes pastels. I’m a mom too, I wash clothes and I ruined my favorite shirt. How can I save this orange crayon mess? The stain isn’t big — just on the edges of the shirt — but it’s noticeable since the shirt is white.

I come with good news: I recently had two victories with pastels. Let me tell you about it, so that my Crayon victories are also your victories in the Cretaceous!

Remove crayons from upholstered furniture

The first crayon victory happened at a friend’s apartment. Her daughter lay down on the sofa, so between a cup of tea and the plane, my friend asked if I could find a way to get the scribbles out of the upholstery.

The solution was so easy I almost feel like I’m cheating you out of a more novel answer, but it is what it is: Diluted liquid laundry detergent took the crayon out of the upholstery. I know it! It was really enough, but I’ll explain the technique and the specific detergent we used. The detergent was Tide Ultra Stain Release, which is a very, very good measure. Other liquid detergents, or even dish soap, can be used for this, so don’t feel that you need to run out and buy this specific formula, but if you’re in the market for a new bottle of detergent, that Tide is a great one to pick up.

To use it to take the crayon out of the couch, we poured a small amount — probably about a quarter teaspoon—of the liquid detergent into the bottle’s cap, and then filled it about halfway up with water. Then, using a light-colored dish rag (using a light-colored rag or sponge is important, so that you don’t end up transferring dye onto the area you’re trying to clean), we scrubbed at the crayon and it just came right off. Eventually, we rinsed the rag off, survived, and walked around with clean water to remove any detergent residue.

Remove crayons from clothes

Shortly after this first crayon win, a woman tweeted to me after sending the crayon through the pad. Since success with the sofa was so fresh in my mind, I suggested that she try soaking the stained clothes in hot water and Tide Ultra Stain Release for about an hour and then washing them again. The reason the hot water helped in this case was basically melting the wax into the crayon to loosen it.

And it worked perfectly for her! So that’s it, don’t be afraid of crayons!

Remove crayons from walls and floors

There is sure to be a bigger and more ugly mess in this section, but before we close this article, it’s worth taking a detour to talk about removing crayons from walls, floors, and other hard surfaces.

You will most likely dry up the little scribbles with some dish soap and a sponge or cloth, but if you are too stubborn with detergents, you can use larger guns.

Usa la maionese per pulire il pastello "art" dalle pareti
