How to play nba hangtime on nintendo 64

Nintendo 64

Better than Showtime and Hoopz

NBA Hangtime is a port of the arcade game of the same name. This game is faithful to the classic NBA Jam formula. This is a two-on-two basketball game with a shortened quarter and almost no rules. I was a huge fan of the SNES version of the game and never got a chance to play the N64 version. So I hope this version can be as stunning as the SNES version I played until my death.

Everything here looks much better than the SNES version and is almost the perfect port. All the players are much larger than their SNES counterparts, where they all have huge bodies and the uniforms look more expressive. All the moves like double dunks, blocks and thrusts have the perfect amount of animation and look just like in an arcade game. The demo is represented very similarly to the arcade version, where you can notice little things like timers in the team selection menu and player creation. The game includes pictures of all NBA players, which are displayed in the squad selection menu. The game also manages to design each player’s face exactly to look like the real face. The only downside to the graphics is that they are largely from the 16-bit generation, but are a bit more refined.

The game combines music from the dance and rap genres to give you great tunes to listen to while you play. Even in the break, play the song “Hangtime Rap” while you look at the stats and make changes. These tunes are beautiful and more than I expected from a normal arcade basketball game. The announcer has a strange and distorted tone of voice. But he says a lot more than that of the SNES version. All the sound effects are top notch and with all the dribbling and bouncing they sound as they should.

The controls are quite simple, the buttons on the arms work like a turbo. A passes and B shoots. By performing specific button combinations, you can perform specific movements such as dummy heads, thrusts and new double dunks. As always, if you don’t like the default settings, you can change them to your liking.

The game has only a few game modes. The first is the traditional “Beat all 29 NBA teams to become a great champion” mode. After each game round there is a Hangtime quiz challenge where a random question is displayed and if you answer correctly you get two points. When you get 100 points, you will receive another ten attribute points which you can add to your created players. This is another new Hangtime feature where you can create a player by selecting a uniform, head, and nickname that the announcer can summon him to. The game keeps track of all the stats for him. After each match you win, you get some extra attribute points which you can add to his attributes like strength, speed, steal and so on.

Replayability

The game can be played by one to four players. So invite all your friends to play. I love making players and while it’s not as advanced as what you find in current basketball games like Live and Courtside, it’s good enough for this type of game. And like previous Jam games, this one is filled with hidden character cheats, powerups, and hidden fields.

+: Better graphics and sound than SNES version, Create a player feature, many codes

-: The game is not a hit among simulation enthusiasts, a simple 2D game may not be a big deal for the N64 game

Final grades summary

Graphics: 7.7
Sound: 7.1
Game: 8.4
Replayability: 7.6

General:7.7

Rounded to fit GameFAQs Score: 8

NBA Hangtime is another great arcade game. This would be Midway’s latest 2D arcade basketball game. It made its debut as a 3D engine a few years later in NBA Showtime and later in NBA Hoopz. While simulation fans may not like this game, people looking to get together for a quick fifteen minute game will. For some damn reason I like this game more than Showtime and Hoopz. If you are a big fan of arcade sports games you can try this game if you can still find it.

  • N64 Hangtime NBA is slow

I tried really hard, I searched the forums but I can’t solve the problem 🙁
I have tried almost all the emulators but the rom seems broken. here’s the problem:

the first time i downloaded nba hangtime with p64 everything was fine. I was able to play single and multiplayer games without any problems.
i never uninstalled or deleted roms, it was always on my hard drive, i just didn’t play it anymore. now after months of service i want to play again but it just doesn’t work.
I can choose players, create one, etc. the menu works great. but every time I start a game, the game is very slow and cannot be played.
my pc is pretty decent so i dont think it is a problem.
How can I play my favorite game again? : ((

strange because afaik pj64 never ran the NBA at full speed; there’s probably something I don’t know haha

Try the configuration provided by Bighead here. If you are using a glide or z64, you can use its glide. ini or z64.conf. You will find them here.

    I had 23 straight wins

well is it possible to play this game again on any emulator?

See my post above. BigHead suggests using 1964 with the z64 plugin.

    wow thanks, hopefully again?
but i am very new to emu and so on, can you explain it a little more in detail?

First you need to download 1964.
Version 1.1 can be found here. The interface looks a bit like project64.

Secondly, you will need the plugins that you can find here. (Again, many thanks to Bighead.)

As you will see in the README file, you will need to put the files from the downloaded file into the “plugin” folder ([path] / EMU_1964_11 / plugin): Glide64.dll, Glide64.ini, GlideHQ. dll, z64gl. pack, z64gl. dll, z64-RSP-Ziggy-z64RSP. dll, AziAudio0.56WIP2.dll, NRage_Input_V2.dll. If you are unsure, you can put all files in the plug-in directory of a plug-in package.

Quindi esegui 1964.exe e fai clic su "Connetti", Cambia spine.
Select Glide64 (video), Azimer HLE audio v0.56 (audio), nrage plug (input), no rsp (rsp).

Confirm, run some tests (for example, play).

Quindi fare clic su "Connessione", Cambia spine.
Choose z64 (video), Azimer HLE audio v0.56 (audio), nrage plug (input), emu z64 rsp. plug (rsp).

Confirm, run some tests (for example, play).

Keep what works best for you.

edit: don’t forget to configure the plug-in video if you use glide64 (mostly resolution).

edit 2: z64 appears to be faster

    NBA Suspend Time (Nintendo 64)

The version for Nintendo 64de NBA Hang Time was programmed, published and distributed for Midway in 1997, linked to the European market and 1 September of my year, on this occasion it was published for GT Interactive.

This is the case, which includes algunas diferencias en cuanto a jugadores se refiere, and for example Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley and Muggsy Bogues no pudieron estar en el juego porque estaban with the Space Jam película.

The technical apartament is muy bien.

After two disappointing internal remakes (MK Trilogy and Cruis’n USA), Midway asked an external developer (Funcom) to create an NBA Hangtime version of the N64. Guess what? The difference in quality is striking.

NBA Hangtime is the true sequel to NBA Jam: Tournament Edition (SNES). Just because Acclaim has a game called NBA Jam Extreme (PSX) – because it bought the rights to the name under Midway’s nose – doesn’t mean Acclaim is in the same series or even the same league. Let it be known right away that NBA Hangtime is essentially the best version of NBA Jam. Don’t expect radical changes because there aren’t any.

One of the main advantages of this game (apart from the four player mode) is the ability to create your own player. The downside is that you need a controller to save them. However, this means that it’s easy to take your creation to a friend’s house and play their game.

The developers stuffed all the animation, all the vocal samples and yes, even a rap song during the break, down to a 96 megabit cassette. The graphics are pixel perfect, down to scaling from the arcade version. The sound, although monophonic, is close to the arcade; these aren’t the grainy samples you’re used to since the 16-bit era. The controls do what you want and are fully customizable.

Overall, NBA Hangtime is the best version of NBA Jam on any system. And there is no time to reload! If you are a Jamu fan, you will want to pick this game or at least rent it. Fans outside of Jamu don’t have to step forward because there’s nothing new here. Just a solid (albeit unrealistic) basketball game that’s great for parties.
