With the Xbox One and Sony PlayStation 4, console gaming is now able to offer players a new degree of visual fidelity and online play. Games on the Xbox One console and the PS4 console are bigger, more immersive and look better than they ever have before. Better still, with the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X, you can enjoy even more impressive graphics and processing power. Nintendo’s current console, the Switch, may not pack the same graphical punch, but has been enormously successful thanks to a great library of familiar first-party franchises that have been reinvigorated and the fact it can be used as a home console and a handheld. No matter if it’s PS4 deals, Nintendo Switch deals, or Xbox One deals, Console Deals is the only website you need.

    2 December 2014

Christmas has come early for one man from south London.

Engineering student Robert Quinn received 46 items worth ВЈ3,600 because of a mistake by Amazon and was allowed to keep them.

He was sent a selection of gadgets, including a 3D TV worth ВЈ889, tablets, a games console and even a heater.

The goods were ‘returns’ meant for an Amazon depot, but were instead wrongly dispatched to his home address in Bromley.

“I told them I have a moral issue if people sending this stuff back end up losing out. But Amazon assured me that would not happen,” the Liverpool University student told The Sun.

The 22-year-old said he would give some of the items to charity and sell off others to raise money to invest in a small business he’s setting up.

He also received a baby buggy, a leaf blower, a single bed, a chest of drawers, a Sony PSP console, a Waterman pen, computer gear, a ВЈ170 electric wine cooler, CDs, DVDs and books.

Can you keep packages wrongly delivered to your house?

The answer is yes and no, according to Citizens Advice.

Items that firms send to you, but you didn’t actually order are called “unsolicited goods”. You’re well within your rights to keep them.

You have no obligation to send them back to the company or to pay for them. If a company demands payment, that’s a criminal offence.

But this doesn’t apply to items sent to you by mistake (as happened to Robert); if the order was sent to you twice; or if there’s extra stuff on top of what you ordered.

If a firm has left goods with you that weren’t unsolicited goods, they still belong to the trader and you should try to give them back.

Firms can take you to court to recover their goods.

That happened last Christmas when online retailer Zavvi sent customers games consoles worth ВЈ170, instead of games that cost ВЈ20.

So if they were sent by mistake what do I do?

If items are sent to you by mistake, you will need to contact whoever sent them and ask them to collect the goods.

That shouldn’t cost you anything or inconvenience you in any way. You should also give the company a reasonable deadline to collect the items.

Can I sell items delivered incorrectly to me?

Yes, but it’s quite a process.

You must try to contact the company twice in writing, following a set procedure.

Even after you’ve sold the items, it’ll be at least six years before you can spend the dosh. During that time the original owner can still claim the money back from you.

The PlayStation 5 will be with us soon, but what are those PS5 box dimensions?

How to package and send a games console for christmas

The PS5 box dimensions are no surprise once you get a look at the new PlayStation 5. It’s a huge, 10lb of machine, packed with new technology and featuring a bold design that wouldn’t look out of place in a Black Mirror episode. So for whatever reasons you need to know, here are the PS5 box dimensions.

    • Height: 17 inches / 43 cm
    • Width: 18.5 inches / 47 cm
    • Depth: 7 inches / 18 cm
    • Weight: 14lb 8 ounces / 6.7 kg

If you’re having trouble visualizing the size of the box from those numbers, here’s a 30lb French Bulldog for scale.

Inside the box you’ll find the console, a DualSense controller, a stand to support your PS5, an HDMI cable, a power lead, and a USB C to USB cable. The PS5 also comes pre-loaded with Astro’s Playroom, a game that really showcases what the machine, and the DualSense, can do.

If you want to know more about the PS5, check out our initial impressions of the hardware with our PS5 unboxing and our first look at Astro’s Playroom, where we got to grips with the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers of the new DualSense controller.

If you missed out on the first load of stock, head over to our PS5 pre-orders guide for the latest updates at the best retailers and hope you get lucky. If you’ve rather hold out for a bundle or are crossing your fingers that some PS5 accessories will get discounted, you’ll want to keep your eye on our PS5 Black Friday deals page.

If your kids are at the age where you’re considering buying a game console, now might be the right time. Whether you want the immersive virtual reality of the Sony PlayStation or the portability of the Nintendo Switch, today’s consoles offer more realism, interactivity, and flexibility than ever before. The question still remains: Which console is best for your family’s needs?

Best for Families with Young Kids: Nintendo Switch/Switch Lite

With games such as Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Super Mario Party, and Ring Fit Adventure, as well as cool activity packs such as the Labo Toy-Con Variety Kit, Nintendo maintains its position as the best option for families to use together. The Switch works both as a stationary console that plugs into your TV and a portable gaming device with two built-in controllers and a touchscreen. The recently released Switch Lite, on the other hand, uses the same games as the Switch, but it’s strictly a portable station that’s designed only for gaming on the go. While the Switch library does offer its share of mature games, the consoles include parental controls so you can help your kids regulate their use. Check out the Best Nintendo Switch Games for Kids.

Best for Tweens and Families: Microsoft Xbox One S and Sony PlayStation 4

These may be the basic systems from Microsoft and Sony, but they’re still very powerful and run all of the games that you can get your hands on. One of the big advantages is that you can often find these machines bundled with a few games to play along with the system. Xbox One S is a better choice for families who already own a lot of Xbox games, as it will play some Xbox 360 titles. If you’re tired of discs cluttering things up, consider the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition console which stores all your games in the cloud. The PS4, by contrast, provides access to older PS3 games through its digital store and its PS Now service.

Of course, violent games such as Resident Evil 3, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Wolfenstein: Youngblood are available for each, but so are family-friendly titles such as The Lego Marvel Collection, Madden NFL 21, and The Jackbox Party Pack 7. Plus, both systems contain parental controls with customizable family settings to control screen time and purchase limits, as well as content filters to block inappropriate games for kids.

Best for Tweens, Teens, and Serious Gamers: Microsoft Xbox Series X, Microsoft Xbox Series S, Sony PlayStation 5, Sony PlayStation Pro, Sony PlayStation VR

If your kids are really passionate about games, then these machines are the best — if not the only — choices. At the high end of the price range and advanced features are the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5, which are ultrafast and provide super-realistic graphics.

Microsoft unveiled two systems in November 2020: the Xbox Series X, and the smaller Series S. While both can play the latest titles, the Series S was designed to be all-digital — without a disc drive — while the Series X was designed to be the most powerful game console ever made. Both benefited from Microsoft’s dedication to backward compatibility, meaning any game bought for any Microsoft console can be played on either machine. Check out our favorite Xbox Series X/S Games for Kids.

Sony’s most powerful system to date, the PlayStation 5, launched in November 2020, as well, becoming one of the most sought-after systems that holiday season. It could play both PlayStation 4 games and the latest releases for the system, and could present visuals in 4K resolution, meaning players received jaw-dropping visuals as they played the latest releases.

Keep in mind that, though there are plenty of games for each console designed for tweens and younger, the vast majority of Xbox and PlayStation games are intense and mature. But there are still plenty of titles to get players’ hearts pumping, whether it’s the manic rhythm of Just Dance 2021, the off-road racing of Dirt 5, or the stadium-rocking noise of FIFA 21.

Sony has the edge for virtual reality with its PlayStation VR headset designed to work with the PS4 and PS4 Pro. PSVR provides a totally immersive, virtual reality game experience. There’s a number of impressive games for the headset, like the anti-bullying-themed Concrete Genie, the colorful and entertaining links of Everybody’s Golf VR, and the soaring adventure of Falcon Age.

Is it too soon to celebrate Christmas?

Should Christmas decorations go up before or after Thanksgiving? Todd Piro hits the streets to find out.

The U.S. Postal Service is getting into the holiday spirit with “Operation Santa.”

Launched on Monday across the country, the agency hopes to help children and families in need get the items they want — like toys, or winter coats and shoes — this holiday season by posting their “Dear Santa” letters online.

The program works like this: Anonymous donors look through kids’ letters and “adopt” any that interest them. Next, those who are feeling festive and generous purchase items the children have asked for, before they package them and bring them to a participating Post Office.

How to package and send a games console for christmas

The U.S. Postal Service receives “thousands” of letters written to Santa Claus and the North Pole each year. With “Operation Santa,” they’ve posted those letters online — with the hope people can help children in need receive holiday gifts. (U.S. Postal Service)

Letters posted online by the Postal Service show a variety of potential gifts to give. A child named Gavin asked Santa for “Harry Potter Lego sets” and Ana wants “hamster stuff.” Oscar wants a MacBook Pro, but also a pet lizard. Rhen asked for toys, but also a new coat.

Alex, who said the “number one priority is for my family to be safe forever,” also requested an unlimited data plan and a new iPhone.

Children have asked Santa for a variety of gifts this year, including Nintendo Switches, MacBook laptops, and even a pet lizard. (iStock)

Angelina, who wrote to ask Santa how the weather was in the North Pole and apologized for bothering him, said she would love toys for her and her two sisters for Christmas. She said they want a Nintendo Switch, and said they’d be good children and won’t ask for anything next year.

Nintendo Switches appear to be a hot gift this season, as Samuel asked for one, too. He admitted he “got in trouble a lot more than I expected” this year, but asked for the video game console with Fortnite.

The Postal Service receives “thousands” of letters each year that children send to Santa Claus and the North Pole, specifically: Santa Claus 123 Elf Road, North Pole 88888. The agency says their mission “is to answer these letters.”

While this is the first year the operation is available to everyone in the U.S., the festive holiday program isn’t new. “Operation Santa” first began in 1912, and was opened to the public in the 1940s. In 2017, the USPS began the online program in New York, and in 2019 opened to program to anyone in the U.S.

Those looking to participate in “Operation Santa” can visit the Postal Service’s website for more information.
