"IT WAS! One of my favorite African dishes, I love it. With palm nut soup, smoked fish and crabs, hmmm! Just a TASTE OF HEAVEN. I’ve been cooking it this way for as long as I can remember. My philosophy. It’s because you have to eat. You might as well eat the food you love. There is no other person better suited to do it right. But again, you have to have the right teacher. Good things always come to mind. GOODS AND BIENTOT. "

how to make fufu

Jak mówią mieszkańcy Aszanti z Ghany: "Człowiek nie jadł ani dnia, jeśli nie zjadł fufu".

Patriarchy aside, and perhaps mercifully, women aren’t under the same proverbial pressure of eating fufu in such a religious way, but they do it anyway because they love it and most of them produce it.

Due to the recent #FufuChallenge TikTok – in which people record how they buy and taste fufu, the staple food of West Africa – social media has been overwhelmed with people trying fufu for the first time, and many Africans are sharing. how to eat it properly. Here are two things that I wholeheartedly support: yes, the world should know about fufu and yes, Africans should show the world how to eat it.

But there has been an understandable backlash in response to the “challenge” — specifically the ignorant reactions to one of Ghana’s finest exports. I am not surprised that whites are sniffing their noses at fufu, but rather disappointed by the offensive comments I have seen from some African Americans who may have considered this cuisine a gift from their ancestors that should not be taken lightly or overlooked.

These Americans will do this fufu challenge, showing their disgust for eating people’s culture, but they are the same ones who wore daishiki to see Wakanda, let Beyoncé release another album Afrobeats go crazy, hello

This fufu challenge on TikTok is so disgusting.

Fufu isn’t a ‘challenge’. It’s a traditional everyday Ghanaian meal. Not an inhuman and inedible thing.

If you want to try the food, make a horseradish and peppermint tea sandwich and be done with it. Shm.

So the goal of #fufuchallenge is to disrespect African culture?

Because people go to great lengths to buy food, try it, spit it out and call it lousy.

It’s ok not to like something but to use it to disrespect peoples culture?! Shm

What is fufu?

Fufu goes perfectly with any soup or stew, especially those from West Africa, such as light soup (nkrakra), peanut soup (nkate nkwan), palm nut soup (abenkwan), vegetable soup Verdi (abun abun), egusi soup and more.

Plantain Fufu is basically a solid meal or swallow (as we call it in West Africa) of green bananas. The plantains we use for this recipe are unripe green bananas. Plantains are grain-free, gluten-free, and are a good source of magnesium, calcium, and many other nutrients. In fact it is recommended as a healthy food for diabetes and also helps to improve the general well-being of the organism.

how to make fufu

This meal is really easy to prepare. All you have to do is peel and cut the bananas into small pieces – this makes mixing easy. Pour the blended cake into the pot and keep stirring until it becomes elastic – it’s that simple!

Although this recipe can also be made with plantain flour, that is flour obtained by drying green bananas and grinding them into a fine powder.

I decided to use green bananas today because I have one in the house right now, but if you want you can also use plantain flour for this recipe. It works just as well. However, I recommend that you buy one that does not contain preservatives.

Sometimes we plan to use green bananas in our recipes, but they suddenly ripen on us. The best thing you can do to prevent this from happening is to keep them and you can use them whenever you want.

Variants of the fufu names include Foofoo, Fufuo, Foufou, Foutou and many more depending on the part of Africa.

The plantain fufu can be combined with Okro, Spinach (efor riro), Egusi’s soup, Ogbono and others.

I’m not a fan of fermented fufu, but some people love it. It’s just one additional step, but you’ll have to start preparing it a few days in advance. Before making fufu, simply soak the peeled and diced cassava in water for three to five days. That’s it! Each subsequent step remains the same. However, due to fermentation, it will have a stronger flavor than the usual mild starchy flavor.

Notethat fufu hardens as it cools, so it is advisable to cook it on the softer side, especially if you don’t eat it right away.

Potato flakes, made from oven and constantly stirred water form a starchy ball that is served on a stew. More traditional ingredients are harder to find, so it’s a great fit.

how to make fufu

ingrediants

6 cups of water
2 1/2 cups bisquick
2 1/2 cups instant potato flakes

Advice

In a large, heavy saucepan, bring the water to a boil. Combine the remaining ingrediants and add to the water.

Keep stirring for 10-15 minutes – for best results, two people are needed: one is holding the pot and the other is stirring vigorously with a strong tool (such as a thick wooden spoon). The mixture will become very thick and difficult to blend, but if you are not alert and energetic at the same time, you will get a lumpy mess.

When the fufu is ready (or you are mixing to the limit!), Pour about a cup of the mixture into the wet bowl and shake it until it forms a smooth ball. Serve on a large plate next to the soup or stew.

cook’s notes

Traditional West African fufu is prepared by cooking starchy foods such as cassava, yam, plantain, or rice and then blending them into a gluten-free mass, usually in a giant wooden mortar and pestle. The earliest morning sounds of rural West Africa are often the rhythmic beat of fufu.

This adaptation for North American people might annoy you if you try to stick to minimally processed foods. But West African peanut stews are worth a try at least once.
