How to make a prayer journal

A new campaign has been launched by the Christian Institute in the United Kingdom to oppose an agenda that would make some praying illegal.

The problem is with pending plans by lawyers and government officials to address “conversion therapy,” and one of the provisions is that some of the “solutions” would literally make praying for people illegal.

The institute explained that top human rights lawyer Jason Coppel has confirmed that there would be problems with a decision to criminalize the “expression of mainstream Christian beliefs about marriage” because that action likely would violate the European Convention on Human Rights.

Nevertheless the plans remain and now are being addressed by the institute’s “Let Us Pray” campaign.

Conversion therapy is a term for actions that are used to allow people to establish their lives in their own birth sex. It allows males who have unwanted homosexual attractions to address those issues in their lives.

Its detractors call it “conversion therapy” but what it involves essentially is counseling for a person to work through their unwanted feelings of gender dysphoria.

In the past, extreme quack treatments like electric shock and illegal “corrective rape” were used by some of those who called themselves therapists. At this time, treatment by recognized counselors involves almost exclusively talk therapy.

And that’s what implicates prayer. Proponent of the ban activist Alicia Kearns said, “Conversion therapy can range from ‘therapy’ and prayer sessions, to aversive treatments like electroshocks or even ‘corrective’ rape.”

The pro-LGBT Ozanne Foundation said, “This is not a matter of freedom of speech. this harmful practice is unfortunately promoted and practiced primarily by religious leaders. the ban must. ensure that no loopholes are created that allow those who practice conversion therapy to offer help in ‘changing one’s behavior.'”

Another, Matthew Hyndman, charged, “Those who resist legislation against conversion therapy often resist the idea of a prayer or a pastoral conversation being subject to the scrutiny of law. However, if these things take place in an overwhelmingly homophobic or transphobic context the pernicious power of prayer must be dealt with.”

And from activist Jayne Ozanne herself: “I would strongly refute that ‘gentle non-coercive prayer’ should be allowed. All prayer that seeks to change or suppress someone’s innate sexuality or gender identity is deeply damaging and causes immeasurable harm.”

The campaign warns that a ban on prayer, preaching and pastoral advice as suggested would put the nation in conflict with international law.

Campaign spokesman Simon Calvert said: “We simply want to protect the human rights of Christians to teach and practice their beliefs. A conversion therapy ban should target abuse, not prayer.”

The campaign explains it should not be illegal for Christians to teach their faith, or for people to pray for their friends.

The ban as proposed would outlaw, according to the institute, “praying with friends about unwanted feelings of same-sex attraction,” “church ministers from urging people to repent of sexual sin,” “inviting gay people to follow the Bible’s teaching on celibacy and marriage,” and “Sunday schools and youth groups from advocating the Christian sexual ethic.”

WND previously reported the institute had told Prime Minister Boris Johnson and others in government that such a ban would be problematic.

The dispute, like in the United States, has pitted those who advocate for transgender procedures and more against those who want to be able to counsel those, especially children, with gender dysphoria on accepting their biological sex.

Studies have shown that a vast majority of minors with those issues eventually grow out of them and accept living in their unaltered biological body.

But LGBT advocates have worked to have banned any “talk” that would encourage that pathway, instead saying only counseling that encourages a transgender agenda should be allowed.

The institute’s message was,”While the Institute does not oppose a ban that protects people from harmful pseudo-medical practices, the idea that ‘gentle non-coercive prayer’ should be included in a list of illegal actions is alarming. In any event, it would violate the human rights of believers.”

It added, “Those pushing for the ban to include ordinary prayer seem to attribute the worst possible motives to those of us who hold different theological beliefs from them. They are not willing to listen to mainstream Christian groups or to their concerns. Now they have gone a step further by stating that the legislation should cover not only practices they consider coercive but all forms of prayer, no matter how mild.”

Several states in the United States have banned it, especially for minors, although they still allow counseling that encourages the dysphoria, including transgenderism.

Generally, people do pray to ask for help or thanking God for his blessings on them.

Praying to God is just only having words with him. People of our world have a positive faith in prayer that God will always answer.

People believe in prayers

Miracles happen after doing a prayer that has always understood as an act of God. It results in more strengthened their belief in God.

Prayers have come into existence since ages by the messenger of gods, who taught people to say the Lord’s prayer.

Thanksgiving is the deepest expression of our gratitude. Thanksgiving prayer is the deepest expression our gratitude to God for His Grace.

When you come before God with Thanksgiving prayer, it’s like sweet perfumed incense that fills His presence. Oh how God loves to receive from His saints prayers of thanksgiving, it’s a sweet smelling sacrifice before Him.

Thanksgiving prayer

Father of life, you are the almighty God, the unchanging God that can change all things. All good and perfect gifts comes from you, you are the source of love, life and holiness. You are the God who alone does great wonders, what a mighty God you are. God, You cannot be equalled or rivalled; you are the self-existing and uncreated God.

Today, I give you thanks for your life in me, for I live, move and have my being in you. I give you thanks for your good hands upon my life, for with them you shield my head in the days of battle. God, I give you thanks for my faults and weaknesses that you forgive, showing me your mercy. I give you thanks for the righteousness of Christ that you input in me thereby giving me access into your presence.

Oh what a great God you are, your works to me and in me are wonderful and glorious. I thank you because only a father like you would love a child like me in spite of me. Thank you for daily transforming me through your word.

Everlasting father, I choose to thank you for both the good times and the seemingly bad times I face, knowing that through it all, you have continually worked out you good purpose for my life. Thank you for the things I have gained and the things I have lost, you are the reason I haven’t lost all and the reason I will gain all.

No matter what comes my way LORD, you will always be my God. I thank you today that you are more than enough for me. As you hold my hands, you take me through the day and I will return victoriously, giving you the praise. Amen.

Prayer of Gratitude

Thank you, Lord, for all the blessings you have sent to me in my life. You have provided me with more than I could ever have ask or even imagine. You have given me the best friends and family who care and help me in good or bad times. Lord, you thank you for keeping me safe during my life journey and for protecting me from bad situations. You always help me to make the right decisions, you speak to me in so many ways directly or through other people.
I am so grateful to you for all the blessings you gave to me. Lord, don’t let me forget to show my gratitude in my prayers. Thank you, Lord. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Prayer of Thanksgiving for Grace

Thank you, my Lord, for the grace you are giving for me every day of my life. I understand that I don’t deserve what I receive from you, that you give me all the things in advance. I am weak and fail so often, but your grace is endless, and I understand that without your help I can do nothing alone. Your grace makes me feel so grateful and loving not only for you, Lord but for the all your people I meet in my life. It gives joy to all the situations of my life. Lord, you are the only source of the grace, so teach me to live according to your will. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

The importance of the Thanksgiving prayer

It is a prayer that ushers us daily into the presence of God. Psalms 100:4 “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name” Thanksgiving is the password. Irrespective of what you are going through, you don’t come before Him with complains and murmuring, God is not glorified in your complaint rather, he takes delight in your thanksgiving.

When you give thanks, you proclaim and publish the wonderful works of God both in creation and also especially in your life, and this you need to do daily, for, He daily loads you with benefits says the bible. Psalm 26:7 ”that I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works” When you thank Him for what He’s done, He is moved to do more for you.

When you offer thanksgiving prayers to God, especially when you are going through hard times (for it is more difficult to praise God when we can’t trace Him) that thanksgiving becomes a sacrifice, a very costly one indeed. Such sacrifice produces strength from God, and ultimately orchestrate you deliverance, Paul and Silas are perfect example (Acts 16:24-26). Another example is that of Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah in 2 Chronicles 20.

Finally, it is right and understandable that we should say the Thanksgiving prayer for God either in the good or in the bad times. Give thanks to God daily and watch Him answer you in amazing ways.

Have you THANKED HIM TODAY? Come on, He eagerly awaits your thanksgiving, He longs to hear what you have to say to about Him, and He is ready to ride on the wings of your thanksgiving to show Himself mighty in your behalf.

How to make a prayer journal

Sickness is something that is bound to happen due to various reasons. There is the pollution of the atmosphere, making it difficult to live a healthy life. Many people are suffering from cancer, diabetes, and many other terminal sicknesses. If you visit the hospital, the type of sick people you will likely see there will surprise you. But despite these challenges, God can still heal the sick when we pray to Him. So prayer for healing for someone in the hospital is very important.

Jesus said that “healing is the children’s bread”. Believers can pray to God and expect to receive healing either for them or their loved ones. Being sick is not a death sentence. Most people don’t understand this, so they get anxious and worried. Worry and anxiety never contribute to making the sickness away, instead, it will worsen the situation.

Therefore, we should always be positive. When we ask God in prayer, He will hear and heal the sick.

How to make a prayer journalPrayer in hospital

James 5:14-15 says, “Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he has committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.” It is the prayer of the sick that can heal the sick or hospitalized, not worry and anxiety.

Prayer for Healing for Someone in the Hospital

Heavenly Father I thank you because you are the God that heals the sick. I thank you because even till today, you are still healing the sick. You have made the provision for our healing through the death of Jesus Christ, for your word said, “by his stripes we were healed”. I pray for those sick today, I command that by the stripes of Jesus Christ, let the sickness be healed in Jesus name. Amen.

More specific healing prayer examples:

The Attitude While Sick in the Hospital

Philippians 4:6 says, “Be careful about nothing; but in every situation by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” When an individual is sick, it is not time to get worried (that’s the meaning of “be careful about nothing“).

Rather, believers should put their trust in the LORD and hope for his healing. When Abraham was without a child, he didn’t get anxious neither was he worried. “Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about a hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah’s womb.” (Romans 4: 18,19).

It was a seemingly impossible situation, but he never gave up. He kept believing, and he did receive his miracle.

At the time of sickness, believers should remain positive. They should also give thanks to God. It is not time to start regretting or blaming God, rather, God should be glorified. The Bible said in everything, give thanks.

We should also believe the promises of God that “he will neither leave us not forsake us”. Never allow the situation or sickness to make you lose hope or faith in God. Keep trusting and believing because though it may tarry, your healing will surely come. (Habakkuk 2: 3).

Ask for Healing in Prayer

There is the privilege of prayer made available to every believer. We can directly access the throne of God through prayer and lay down our requests before Him. Most times, we are not healed because we have not asked for healing through prayer. James said “ye have not, because ye ask not” (James 4: 2). If we can ask for healing through prayer, we shall receive our healing.

Here are specific examples of prayer: Prayers for Healing for a Friend

Asking God for anything must be in the faith. If we fail to ask or pray in faith, there will be no answer to our prayers. Hebrews 11:6 says, “But without faith, it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” James also affirmed this by saying that “the prayer of faith shall heal the sick.”

That is how we should pray. We should not doubt God, but rather, believe that He is able to do all things and that with God nothing shall be impossible.

Praying for healing must be out of a sincere heart. Hearts filled with hypocrisy will not be able to get an answer from God. Therefore, before you ask God for healing, make sure that your heart is free from anything that will offend God. Always pray in sincerity because Psalms 34:18 says, “The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”

The Steadfast Promises to Pray

There are many promises to depend on and pray to God. There are great and precious promises that God has made for us. They are steadfast promises that cannot fail. “For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.”

There are many things we can ask in the prayer for healing for someone in the hospital. Jeremiah 33:6 said, “Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them and will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth.” We can pray for the healing of the sick, and for the restoration of the health of those who are weak. We can depend on the words of God, and pray with them. The Bible said, “By the stripes of Jesus, we are healed”. Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, from sickness, and from oppression.

Have faith in God, depend on his promises, pray for the healing of the sick, and he will answer and heal them.

Hallow, a Catholic prayer and meditation app that claims over a million downloads, has raised over US$52 million in investments.

Prayer apps are not new. Silicon Valley startups popularized mindfulness and meditation apps as early as 2010, although many have criticized those apps for being spiritually shallow. Hallow’s young founders – devout lay Catholic millennials – are among those who felt that mindfulness apps did not meet their religious needs and set out to create their own.

Hallow’s accessible language introduces different methods of prayer, along with inspiring talks, guides to spiritual practices and notifications to encourage users to set goals and stay on track.

As a priest, I know that helping people develop healthy prayer habits is important. But both as a scholar of Christian spirituality and as someone who provides spiritual direction to others, I see limitations in what prayer apps can achieve.

Tech and faith

Churches have long adopted communications technology enthusiastically to spread their message. The Reformation started by Martin Luther and his followers in 16th-century Germany spread rapidly through the use of Gutenberg’s printing press.

Currently, Catholic faith-based media include the Eternal Word Television Network, founded by Catholic nun Mother Angelica, which provides news, radio programming, live-streamed services and web-based religious instruction to an estimated viewership of more than 250,000,000 viewers.

Apps serve a purpose as well. As several surveys have shown, active membership in a religious community is declining. Religiously unaffiliated people, who are mostly young, make up about a quarter of the American population. At the same time, many of them yearn for a sense of religious belonging, and these apps appear to help in creating a faith-based community.

The kind of community that technology fosters is an important spiritual question to consider, however. Evidence suggests that the unstoppable reach of technology into all aspects of our lives is shaping how people think and relate to one another. Research has shown that while people have far more access to information, their attention span is less. Since prayer involves both the mind and emotions, this has spiritual implications.

Seeing how addicted people have become to their phones and other devices, I sometimes urge them to regain some spiritual freedom by giving up social media during Lent.

Prayer as community

How to make a prayer journal

Collective identity is baked into many religious traditions, including Islam and Buddhism.

Commitment to community also runs deep in the Jewish roots of Christianity. Eastern Orthodox Christianity and Catholicism give particular emphasis to the communal aspect of prayer. The praying community gathered together is at the heart of their faith and identity.

An embodied community asks people to show up regularly in real time and gather together with those they may not know well or even like. The time-consuming inconvenience and lack of choice are in fact spiritual riches because they involve the needs of others. This kind of sacrifice is not what prayer apps facilitate.

In the Catholic tradition, prayer is not primarily about finding peace, joy or reducing stress. Those can be achieved, but they aren’t always present or necessary. Deepening one’s prayer is often a slow process that involves passing through periods of being bored, distracted or frustrated.

People with excellent intentions can sometimes end up being confused about what they are experiencing in prayer, especially if it is unfamiliar. As a priest, I tell people a good rule of thumb is that growth in prayer leads to greater kindness to others, and less focus on oneself.

Many religious traditions, within and outside Christianity, insist that healthy spiritual growth can be aided by the personal guidance of people more experienced in prayer.

The “spiritual father” in monasticism is a teacher of prayer. Within Catholicism, spiritual directors, who can be laypeople or ordained, listen to people talk about their experiences in prayer, helping them relate their prayer to their everyday lives. While this tradition of spiritual guidance can help provide guidance, each person’s prayer is always unique to them.

Even the best-designed algorithms are unlikely to tend to the human soul adequately.

Measuring impact

Hallow’s many enthusiastic reviews insist that this prayer app is a force for good. So do the many users of other apps.

From my perspective, the measure of a prayer app’s success is not the number of downloads. Jesus insists on looking at the fruit of good intentions. If any app helps people to be more patient, humble, just, and attentive to the poor, it’s a good thing. But being an active member of a real community is likely needed as well.

Fr. Matthew Widder of the Catholic Community of Waukesha was walking in the Waukesha Christmas Parade when he heard a scream, then saw a vehicle fly past his left side.

“I heard it hit a couple people,” he said. “I don’t have any images, just the sound is with me.”

Six people died after being struck by a driver who plowed his SUV through the parade last Sunday. More than 60 others were injured.

While Widder himself is still healing emotionally, he helped members of the Waukesha community with their healing Sunday afternoon — through a prayer procession led by Milwaukee Archbishop Jerome Listecki along the parade route.

“It’s part of the healing process — to kind of face it again with our shepherd,” Widder said.

“It’s our community,” Listecki told the Journal Sentinel. “It’s important when a community suffers loss and suffers injury and pain, you want to do everything you can to let the community know we’re together as one.”

Over the past week, people from around the world, including Pope Francis, have been offering their support, Listecki said.

‘Start the healing process’

On Sunday, dozens gathered inside St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, which is part of the Catholic Community of Waukesha. That community also includes St. John Neumann, St. Mary and St. William.

“Many of our members were affected by the results of last week, so we decided to come and start the healing process,” said attendee Don Thiel.

Don and his wife, Mary Thiel, have been members of the Catholic Community of Waukesha for 35 years.

Listecki said a prayer inside the church, then led those gathered along the parade route, stopping seven times along the way.

During those stops, priests, like Widder, offered prayers for those affected by the tragedy, then the group joined together in The Lord’s Prayer and The Hail Mary.

“We pray because we know there’s more than this life,” Listecki told the Journal Sentinel. “But we’re to do our best in making sure that, whatever love of God is present, that we share it.”

“It was so beautiful, so touching and moving, everyone praying together and united to help those who are affected,” said Peggy Lanser, an adult and family ministry coordinator for the Catholic Community of Waukesha.

At a memorial set up at Veterans Park, Listecki said a special prayer, asking God for his presence, to purify the area where evil was committed and “make that place whole.”

“We pray that for the whole Waukesha community, but we pray that also for our nation — to make us whole,” Listecki said. “We must turn to the one who can turn anything that’s evil into something which is a testimony to God’s presence and goodness.”

About 25 to 30 people were expected to attend Sunday’s procession, Listecki said.

“As you can see, I’d estimate probably 150, maybe 160 people that were here,” he said. “I think there was this need to want to do something — just something — whether it’s walk, pray together, to do something. I got that sense from the group here.”

“It was very moving, just a good reminder of the importance of faith and being together with other members of the congregation to start that healing process,” Don Thiel said.

This weekend also marked the start of Advent, a time to “begin again,” Widder said.

“Are we all perfectly healed? No. But we begin again,” Widder said. “Are we completely whole just yet? No. But we begin again on this road.”

Listecki is encouraging people of faith to continue to pray for those who have suffered injury as a result of the incident, and especially, those who have lost their lives.

A journal prompt is a simple statement designed to inspire you or offer you an idea of what to write about. It doesn’t matter how much you love to write, or how often you write, there will be times when you just don’t know where to start. Prompts are also great for helping beginner writers get into journal writing.

Basic journal prompts can be used by anyone to help get past a temporary block. The best journal prompts inspire you to look deep inside yourself for inspiration, and to discover and capitalize on some of the hidden thoughts and ideas you hadn’t previously recognized or even considered. With practice, you can develop the ability to find inspiration in everything you see. But, when you’re just getting into journal writing, or when you’re really stuck, these suggested journal prompts can be very helpful.

Journal Writing Prompts

Here are some examples of journal prompts to help you start a journal or to inspire a dedicated journal writer:

  • Write about your childhood.
  • Write about lost friendships.
  • Write about your school life, your grades, what you wish you had done differently.
  • Write about turning points in your life – what would be different now if you had made a different choice.

  • What line of work do you plan on pursuing in the future?
  • Write down how you can improve your life.
  • Write about children you plan to have, and what you wish for them.
  • Write letters to your future children and grandchildren that you can give to them when they are older. These letters will help them understand the type of person you were at their age.
  • Write about places you wish to see, vacations you plan to have.
  • Write about home improvements you would like to make.
  • Make a bucket list.

Write about the Present

  • Write letters to your boss or coworkers.
  • Write about your friends, coworkers and family members, describing what they are like, what you like and dislike about each one, etc.
  • Write about your job, pets, your home, etc.
  • Write about your daily activities so you can look back and remember each moment.
  • Add photos to your entries to make them more special.

Online journals are private and confidential, so you can write about anything you like. Unlike paper journals, you never have to worry about your secrets falling into the wrong hands. If there are parts of your journal that you’d like to share, you can easily do so. You can grant access to anyone you wish, and still maintain strict control over your thoughts and your writing.

Ìfé merges Afro-Latin percussion and Yoruba prayer with electronic music. Led by Otura Mun, an African American percussionist, producer and Santería priest, the New Orleans-based group made its debut in 2017, as a way for Mun to actualize his drumming and religious practice. The band’s new album, “0000+0000,” delivers a modern take on devotional music. While the numbers that make up the album’s title might seem like an arbitrary stylistic choice, within the Ifá religion and divination system they carry a deeper meaning. “0000+0000” works as a counterpart to light and the beginning of things, representing instead the chance to view death as a rebirth and a catalyst for change.

“In this record I’m talking about death, and not fearing it, but embracing it as part of the life cycle,” Mun says. The songs on “0000+0000” speak of the need to transcend existing socioeconomic structures to “make way for new things.” In standout tracks “Fake Blood” and “Wednesday’s Child,” lyrics about political crimes, rampaging corporate culture and generational trauma become compelling testaments to the album’s overarching theme: America’s decline as a world power. “Part of what this record is sort of alluding to is that there are truths about who we are as Americans … and about the world that we’re living in, that are unavoidable truths,” Mun says. “You can talk your way around climate change all you want, but it’s unavoidable.”

While advocating for change, the songs on “0000+0000” are not just protest songs.
