Batteries required to operate 12 volt LED lamps

Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) create a subtle light effect. They consume very little energy and run on low voltage, so a battery is an effective way to power them. You can connect as many LED lights as you need, but the more lights there are, the shorter the battery life, so you should consider the correct battery size and voltage; otherwise you will have to replace it frequently.

Look to the side of one of your LED lights to find out what voltage is required for operation. You have to match this voltage with the battery. LED lighting can use 1 to about 6 volts depending on the type.

Choose a battery that produces a similar voltage to that used by the LEDs. The larger the battery size, the longer it will last.

Place the LED lights in the holders. Press them with your fingers.

Count the number of LEDs you want to connect to the battery. This determines the number of wires needed to connect the lights.

Calculate the number of strips of thread you need. Multiply the number of LEDs by 2 and then subtract 2. Fo example, if you’re wiring 6 LEDs, multiply 6 by 2 to get 12 and then subtract 2 to get 10.

Cut 3-inch strips of thin electrical wire with a knife. 18 gauge AWG wire works well. Remove about 1/4 inch of the plastic from the ends of the wires with a wire stripper.

Loosen the tiny captive screws on the LED light holders with an appropriately sized screwdriver if the wires are connected this way. Some LED mounts have small clips; with them, you just insert the wires under the clips, so you don’t need to prepare them fo wiring.

Use a short strip of wire and connect one end (no matter which) to the first clamp on the tool holder. Insert the wire under the screw, then tighten the screw with a screwdriver or slide the wire under the terminal so that it holds the wire firmly.

Use another strip of wire and connect it in the same way to the second terminal of the first LED handle. Connect the opposite ends of the wires connected to the first LED lamp holder to the terminals of the second lamp holder. Connect two more short strips of wire to the same terminals.

Connect the opposite free ends of the cable from the second LED socket to the third socket in the same way. If connecting multiple lights, connect two more short strips to the terminals of the third lamp holder.

Continue the process until you reach the last handle of the LED light, but don’t connect the last two free ends of the wire to the handle yet.

Cut two long strips of thread with a knife; about 18 to 24 inches is in the stomach. The wires must extend from the last LED light fixture. Use a wire stripper to remove approximately 1/4 inch of the plastic sheath from the ends of the wires.

Connect the opposite ends of the two short loose wires from the penultimate LED lamp holder and one end of the two long strips of wire to the terminals of the last LED lamp holder. Connect the opposite ends of the two wires from the last LED lamp holder to the battery that will power the LED lights. Connect them with a couple of strips of electrical tape if the battery doesn’t have connectos. The LEDs light up as soon as they are connected to the battery.

Create @house paper circuits

Here is a list of useful parts if you want to experiment with paper circuits at home.

Materials needed

Copper tape You can get ready-to-use 5mm copper tape from sparkfun. com (part number PRT-10561). It is also often sold in hardware stores under the name of Slug Tape – it is used to stick to the edges of pots to prevent slugs and slugs from climbing! If so, you can cut it into thinner strips before using it in the perimeter of the paper.

Rubber LED lights These larger LEDs are easier to handle and come in many different coloes. We buy them from Evil Mad Scientist and a good starter kit is red, yellow, green, blue, orange and white.

Button batteries Any hardware or electronics store will offer them. They are good to use because they are flat and fit well on a piece of paper. If you need the online source, you can easily order it from sparkfun.

Fold one corner of the paper and trace the battery on both sides of the fold. Try attaching two strips of copper tape with each piece, starting with one of the circles and ending about half an inch apart.

If you have a fruit, a few nails and some wire, you can generate enough electricity to light the bulb. Making a fruit battery is fun, safe and easy.

What you need

To make the battery you will need:

  • Citrus fruits (e. g. lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit)
  • Nail, screw, or copper wire (about 2 inches or 5 cm long)
  • Zinc nail or screw or galvanized nail (about 2 inches or 5 cm long)
  • A small Christmas light with 2 inch or 5cm threads (enough thread to connect to the nails)

Make a fruit battery

Here’s how to make a battery:

  1. Put the fruit on the table and roll it gently to soften it. You want the juice to flow into the fruit without breaking the skin. Alternatively, you can squeeze the fruit with your hands.
  2. Insert zinc and copper nails into the fruit so that they are about two inches apart. Don’t let them touch you. Avoid piercing the end of the fruit.
  3. Remove enough insulation from the light wires (about 1 inch or 2.5 cm) so that you can wrap one wire around the zinc nail and the other around the copper nail. You can use electrical tape or alligator clips to prevent the wire from falling off the nails.
  4. After connecting the second nail, the light turns on.

How a lemon battery works

Here is the science and chemical reactions associated with a lemon battery (you can try making batteries with other fruits and vegetables):

  • The metals copper and zinc act as the positive and negative terminals of the battery tube (cathodes and anodes).
  • Metallic zinc reacts with acidic lemon juice (mainly citric acid) to form zinc ions (Zn 2+) and electrons (2 and -). The zinc ions dissolve in the lemon juice while the electrons remain on the metal.
  • The wires of the small light bulb are electrical conductors. When used to bond copper and zinc, electrons that have accumulated on the zinc flow into the wire. The flow of electrons is either electricity or electricity. It is he who powers the small electronics or turns on the light bulb.
  • Eventually, the electrons end up in the copper. If the electrons had not traveled further, they would eventually have accumulated so that there would have been no potential difference between zinc and copper. If that happened, the flow of electricity would cease. However, this will not happen because the copper is in contact with the lemon.
  • The electrons that accumulate at the end of the copper react with water or with the ions (H +) that float freely in the acid juice, forming water or water atoms. Water atoms bond together to form hydrogen gas.

Save money by making your own 12 volt rechargeable battery pack with AA batteries. This power source can be used to power small devices such as radios. This can come in handy on your next camping trip or in the event of a power outage.

Step 1 – Purchase the required material

Go to an electronics or hardware store to buy eight 1.5V AA batteries. You will need eight, because together they will equal one 12V battery (1.5 × 8 = 12). You also need to purchase a battery co pack. After assembly, the set will provide you with the elements you need to create your new power source.

Step 2: Review the assembly instructions

See battery mounting instructions. Be sure to inspect the kit to make sure all parts needed for assembly are included and that all parts appear in good condition. If any of the parts provided in the battery pack are damaged, replace the pack.

After you have matched the parts to the set along with the battery assembly instructions, set the parts in the assembly order to prepare for its construction.

Step 3: Assembling the Battery

Assemble the battery according to the instructions provided. The battery should contain a storage compartment that you can insert AA batteries into. Put them in komoze.

If there is a tester indicator on the battery pack, it should light up and turn green. This means that the battery pack has been assembled correctly and is ready for use.

Step 4: Connect the battery or 12V to the electronic component

You will need to connect the battery, or 12V, to the electronic device you intend to use it with. You may need to do this manually. If so, butke sure the device is turned on to avoid injury. You might consider wearing protective gloves to further prevent injury.

Use a screwdriver and wire cutters to cut the battery pack cables and the appropriate cable with the unit. Connect the wires together by matching the positive (red) and negative (black) wires. Use small wire connectos to join the wires and apply electrician’s black tape over them. This will prevent a short from occurring as a result of this process.

Step 5: Test the electronic device

At this point it is possible to turn on the electronic device to verify that the 12 V battery pack is supplying energy for its operation. If all instructions have been followed correctly, you should be able to turn on the electronic device and power it using the rechargeable battery. Try these steps again or use a different electronic device if the one you’re using doesn’t turn on. If not, the problem is with a faulty component.

You now have a portable power source that you can take with you wherever you go. You will envy your friends on your next camping trip!

LED lighting is a popular way to save money at home. They last for many hours and, when used gently, light, can last up to 25 years. Most LED lights are arranged so that they can run on a 12V battery – in fact, 12V lamps can cause a short circuit if plugged directly into an outlet that normally has 110V. This can be very dangerous, so it is best to let these lights go through a relay.

Step 1: decide where to put it

The first thing to do when connecting LEDs to a battery is to consider where they will go. For example, batteries that support lights on a high wall will need to have something to support their weight. Unless you install them near an existing 12-volt power supply, be prepared to build a shelf, box, or other stand. Leaving the battery suspended will eventually break the connections.

Find a nearby place where you can put the battery and the on / off switch; then measure the distance between where the lights are and where they will be. This is the length of cable needed to connect the LEDs to the power supply.

Batteries and switches should be checked for faults before connecting them to the home’s LED lighting system. This can be done by checking the current with a voltmeter or by connecting both to a lamp or device known to work.

Step 2: Connect the LED to the battery

Once the LEDs are in place, examine them and find the wires; the negative wire (or cathode) can be identified in one or more of the following ways: it is a shorter wire, it is a flattened section of a circular LED or inside an LED, each wire is connected to a triangular node ; the positive wire (or anode) is connected to the largest node. The diode test function meter will illuminate the LED when applied correctly. When it is turned on, the black lead will be connected to the cathode and the red lead will be connected to the anode.

Now that you are sure which wire it goes to, it’s time to solder the wires to the 12v battery. The cathode goes to ground: it can be soldered directly to the negative socket of the 12V battery. The anode must be connected to the on / off switch which is then connected to the positive end of the battery.

At this point, it is worth checking whether the lighting system in the house is working. Problems can include a blown fuse or broken LED (easy to do when wiring) or a loose connection somewhere between the lights and the battery or battery. Solving these problems is a simple task, and if your home’s lighting system is wired correctly, there should be no problems with using it for the foreseeable future.

Go find yourself a nice bottle of wine? from your collection in the garage, (if you need to drink the wine first, it’s best to wait until the following day befoe making the lamp lol!) Any shape o colour woks really, the moe exotic and colourful the better. Soak and scrape off any labels, etc.

Collect your drill and a drill to cut glass. Glass pieces are inexpensive to buy at your local home improvement store.
There are two ways to make this project …

  • Drill a hole large enough for the cable to pass from the LED kit. Measure the cable size. I used 6mm for this. o
  • Drill a hole large enough to screw the LED lamps into the bottle, measure the size of the lamps. These were 8mm or so.

I wanted to shoten the cableto the battery box anyway, so I opted fo a small hole to thread the cable though, pulling the LEDs into the bottle from the top.

Drilling the glass can be a little tricky, butthe secret is to use water (o a light oil) to keep everything cool. You can make a little ‘moat’ around the hole using blue tack o plasticine to hold the water, although this only woks until the tip has gone through the other side of the glass. Once the tip has gone through, just keep dipping the drill bit into the water / oil every few seconds or if the heat boils the water / oil away.

Drill the hole about 10mm or so up from the bottom of the bottle, not fogetting to keep dipping the drill bit into water / oil to keep everything cool. If your getting dust, you need moe oricant otherwise the drill bit can overheat and the heat could crack the glass.

When you have a nice clean hole wash the bottle well inside and out. Then thread a shot length of string through the hole and out the neck of the bottle, tape the wires from the LED String light set to the string and pull them into the bottle and out of the hole you just drilled. Shoten the wires if necessary and reconnect the wires into the battery box using a soldering iron or just bare the ends and twist them together and tape up to protect them. Put the LEDs into the bottle one by one across the top and move them for even distribution.

If you opted fo the larger hole, just insert the LED lamps into the bottle through the opening until they are all inside!

Once the lamps are in the bottle you can use a hot glue gun to fill the hole and hold the cable in place. If you find that the LED string sinks down into the bottom of the bottle over time, you can use a bent wire to pull them back up again and even use the hot glue gun again to stick some of the cable inside the top of the bottle (where the cok came from) to stop them slipping back down again as you move the lamp around.

Finally, put some good batteries in the box, find a dark place and she will give it. Have fun!

How to replace a 12V battery with a 6V one?

The 9V battery is different from most other batteries. It is rectangular in shape and has hexagonal terminals on the top of the battery and is commonly used fo smoke alarms. It’s not much larger than a regular AA battery but produces six times the voltage. If you want to light a light bulb using a 9 volt battery, you will need to make sure the voltage of the light bulb is similar.

Check the label on the bulb to make sure it can operate at nine volts. It doesn’t matter if the voltage is slightly moe, it just won’t glow as bright, but if the voltage is six o less, it’s likely the bulb will blow when you connect it to the 9-volt battery.

Use a screwdriver to loosen the small fixing screws on the socket. Don’t remove them. Push or screw your light bulb into the holder.

Cut two strips of thread with a knife. Six inches should be long enough. These wires will connect the 9 volt battery to the light bulb. Use a wire stripper to remove approximately ¼ inch of the plastic backing from the ends of the two strips of wire.

Insert the end of one of the wire strips under one of the lamp holder fixing screws; it doesn’t matter which one. Tighten the screw with a screwdriver. Repeat this process with the other metal ribbon.

Cut two three-inch strips of electrical tape with a knife. Place the opposite end of one of the wires from the holder to one of the two terminals on top of the 9 volt battery; it doesn’t matter which terminal. Place the tape around the cable and clamp, then fold the tape around the sides of the battery to hold it in place and hold the cable to the clamp.

Repeat this process, connecting the opposite end of the other wire to the 9V battery terminal. Your bulb should now glow with the power of the 9V battery.

Things you will need

  • 9-volt light bulb (or similar)
  • Lamp holder
  • Screwdriver
  • 18 gauge AWG wire
  • Knife
  • Stripping tools
  • Insulating tape

You can purchase a ready-made snap-on connecto fo 9-volt batteries that have two wires extending from it, which you can connect to your light bulb.

You can purchase bulbs from electrical stoes, or online, that operate using various voltages. Fo instance some bulbs can operate using from six volts to 28 volts.
