Your natural state is to be happy, peaceful, joyous, and full of excitement at being alive. In this natural state, you feel wonderful about yourself and your relationships with the people in your life. You enjoy your work and derive a great sense of satisfaction from making a contribution that makes a difference. Your primary goal should be to organize your life in such a way that this is how you feel most of the time.
As a fully functioning, fully mature adult, you should be doing things every day that move you toward the fulfillment of your potential. You should feel grateful for all your blessings in every area. If you are unhappy or dissatisfied in any part of your life, something is not right in your thoughts, feelings, or actions, and it needs to be corrected.
The starting point in unlocking your full potential is to realize that you already are a prince or princess, deep down inside. No matter where you are today, or what you have done or not done in the past, you need to accept seven essential truths about you as a person and why you are special:
Reason #1: You Are Good
You are a thoroughly good and excellent person. No one is better than you or more gifted than you. Only when you doubt your essential goodness and value do you begin to question yourself. The inability to accept that you are good lies at the root of much of your discontent.
Reason #2: You Are Important, in Many, Many Ways
Your personal universe revolves around you as an individual. You give meaning to everything that you see or hear. How important you feel largely determines the quality of your life. Happy, successful people feel important and valuable. Because they feel and act this way, it becomes true for them.
Unhappy, frustrated people feel unimportant and of little value. They feel frustrated and unworthy. They feel “I’m not good enough,” and as a result they lash out at the world and engage in behaviors that hurt themselves and others. Remember, you are amazing and nothing in your world has any significance except for the significance that you attribute to it.
Reason #3: You Have the Ability Live your Life to the Greatest Potential
You have the capability to create and live your life as you desire and you have unlimited potential to accomplish this. You could not use your entire potential if you lived one hundred lifetimes. No matter what you have accomplished up to now, it is merely a hint of what is truly possible for you. And the more of your natural talents and abilities you develop in the present, the more of your potential you can develop in the future.

Your thoughts on life and your beliefs actually create your realities, and every belief you have about yourself you learned, starting in infancy. The amazing thing is that most of the negative or self-limiting beliefs and doubts that interfere with your happiness and success are not based on fact or reality at all.
When you begin to question your self-limiting beliefs and develop beliefs consistent with the incredible person you really are, your life will begin to change almost immediately.
Reason #5: You Are Always Free to Choose
You are free to choose the content of your thoughts and the direction of your life. The one thing over which you have complete control is your inner life and your thinking. You can decide to think happy, fulfilling, uplifting thoughts that lead to positive actions and results. Or you can end up choosing negative, self-limiting thoughts that hold you back.
Reason #6: You Are Special and Destined for Greatness
You are meant to do something wonderful with your life. You are special and have a unique combination of talents, abilities, ideas, insights, and experiences that make you different from anyone who has ever lived. You are designed for success and engineered for greatness.
Your acceptance or non-acceptance of this point largely determines the size of the goals you set, your power of persistence in the face of adversity, the height of your achievements, and the whole direction of your life.
Reason #7: You Can Conquer Your Fear of Failure
There are no limits to what you can do, be, or have except the limits you place on your own thinking and your own imagination. The biggest enemies you will ever face are your own doubts and your fear of failure. These are usually negative beliefs, not necessarily based on fact that you have accepted over the years until you no longer question them.
Remember the rule: It doesn’t matter where you’re coming from; all that really matters is where you’re going.

2. Take More Risks
Sometimes there’s danger involved in life, but every reward carries risk with it. If you never take risks, you’ll never get anywhere in life, and you certainly won’t learn how to live life to the fullest.
Staying in your comfort zone is the fastest way to become discontent  . Without stepping outside what you’re already comfortable with, you will cease to learn and stagnate in both your personal and professional life.
While it may feel uncomfortable, taking a risk can be as simple as saying yes next time your friends want to go out instead of staying at home alone. It can mean going out on a blind date, buying plane tickets to a new city, or dragging out those paints that have been stuffed away for years.
When people look back on their lives, they regret the chances they didn’t take more than the ones they did, so find something new to try today and set goals beyond what you currently believe possible.
3. Show Your Love to People You Care About
Family and friends will always appreciate hearing that you love and appreciate them in everyday life. It will brighten a stranger’s day to hear a random compliment. If you like someone’s shirt, tell them. If you notice that they’re doing a great job not losing their temper while their kid screams in the supermarket, let them know.

Gratitude is another amazing tool for living in the present  . Each day, practice gratitude by writing down three to five things you’re grateful for. You’ll be amazed and how quickly this helps place you in the moment and start to live life to the fullest.
5. Ignore the Haters
No matter what you decide to do with your life, there will always be someone around to point out the many ways you’ll fail or what you’re doing wrong with each step you take.

You’ll hear people say, “I had that idea,” every time you see someone create something great. Everyone had the idea for Facebook first. The reason Mark Zuckerberg got rich off of it is because he went out and did it while everyone else was talking about it.
Ideas are useless if you don’t act on them. Less thinking, more doing .

The importance of a healthy mind
Your mental and emotional health play a large part in your ability to live a long, happy life. The American Psychological Association found that people who lived the longest and healthiest lives shared certain personality traits.
The study consisted of 300 couples over the course of 75 years. The couples joined the study in their 20s. The participants asked their friends to rate their personalities using a 36-question scale. The researchers then evaluated the responses to determine which personality traits were most common in those who were living the longest and healthiest lives.

So, what were the traits that the study found that led to a longer life? Below are the five key traits that were discovered:
1. Emotional stability
Being emotionally stable was one of the strongest links to living a long, healthy life. Let go of drama, frustration and stress in your life, you don’t need it.
Friendliness was the second highest character quality in this study. Be kind and friendly to everyone you meet. An easygoing personality will bring you a higher quality of life.
Participants who took the time to listen to other people’s ideas and understand their feelings were found to live a longer life span. You may not agree with everyone, and that’s okay, just be open to listen to their point of view.
4. Emotional expression
Expressing your feelings and emotions instead of keeping them bottled up inside is much healthier for your mind and your stress levels. Learning to express yourself freely will lead to a longer life.
People who were methodical and efficient in their thought process and actions tended to live longer. Instead of rushing through a project or to a decision, take some time to think things through. Just slow down a little.

Despite all the luxuries, if you don’t perceive how to stay contented and cheerful, you haven’t lived your life to the fullest. After passing through challenges, catastrophic situations, and various hurdles, an individual might feel to quit his/her life. However, a knowledgeable and experienced individual is the one who can combat all these agonies and admire the gifts God has bestowed upon.
Ways to Live Life to the Fullest
Here are some of the effective ways you can implement to live life to the fullest:
1. Live the Present Moments
Learning the lessons from your past is always a commendable aspect. However, continuously repenting of the wrong deeds you committed in past is futile.

A wakes up regularly with a lack of enthusiasm to face the new day ahead of her. She spends most of her time being controlled by her difficult circumstances, excuses & a victim’s attitude. While on the other hand B actively takes steps to create her desired outcome of the goals she had set, irrespective of her circumstances. She also encourages others despite her overwhelming adversities. While A is worried about her career, work-life, finances, relationships, etc because of her continuous failures, B tries to always maintain a balance and so focuses equally on each area like family, work, fun, self, etc. Life for B is a daily adventure filled with mixed emotions of gratitude, laughter, fun, achievement, failures, or success. While life for A is filled with anxiety, uncertainty, boredom, and aimlessness.
It’s not difficult to decide now that out of both A and B, who is living her life to the fullest, or without any regrets?
What does it mean to live life to the fullest?
Living life to the fullest has nothing to do with being a millionaire or the topmost executive in any organization. It has nothing to do with your educational qualifications or your materialistic possessions. Rather, to live life to the fullest is to dwell in the satisfaction that you love your life irrespective of its ups and downs. It is to persevere despite severe challenges, to be grateful despite lacking, and to maintain integrity and empathy for your people despite your differences. It is to live in the constant optimism that no matter how bad or difficult things are today, the sunshine of the coming day will definitely bring with it the hope for you that things will be a lot better; that no matter how badly you failed, still a lot is left for you to do or to achieve.
Living life to the fullest is:
- Appreciating the little things that come in your way.
- Being realistic towards your life that involves accepting your emotions equally, both positive or negative.
- It is to know yourself, your abilities, talents, strengths, weaknesses and what you are capable of. In other words, it means listening to your inner voice and relying on it.
- It is your ambitions and goals that make you sweat a little bit more, that make you push yourself a little higher than where you are now.
- It is letting go of the past, stop worrying about future and accepting your present moment to its full.
- It means to never give up or stop believing in yourself.
- Becoming aware of your day-to-day thoughts, feelings, actions and behaviors i.e a better self-awareness.
- It means having satisfying relationships that are healthy, motivating and nourishing.
Your definition of living might be quite different from what I discussed above. For some, it can be their most awaited foreign tour while for others it can be a sweaty hour on the yoga mat. On a personal note, spectacular sunset, magical rainy days, an afternoon nap, or my ME-Time in the lap of nature is my definition of living my life to the fullest.
Well, whatever the definition may be, only you know what it means to “live”. Only you know whether you are just existing or are you living each day, each life experience to the fullest?
There is a difference between living your life and just surviving your life. You need to make sure that you are truly living rather than merely existing. Aspiring to live each new day with full zeal, energy, or enthusiasm is truly living life and not just existing and surviving. We can’t deny the obstacles we have to face from time to time, but we can definitely choose to meet those as well with expectations of finding solutions, rather than just complaining about our problems.
You might have a big wish list that you want to do during this lifetime. What are you waiting for? Do them now, one by one. You only live once and you must make it count rather than wasting your complete life waiting for the perfect time to live your life to the fullest.

“I’m not okay, you’re not okay, but that’s really okay,” according to my mentor, Dr. Elizabeth Kubler-Ross, the author of On Death and Dying. The premier expert on life, death, and transition, Kubler-Ross also developed an amazing counseling program just as the AIDS crisis began. Her work helped many people. But this column isn’t about death: It’s about living to the fullest right up until the moment that you die, which is something Kubler-Ross taught well.
If you learn to accept yourself for who you really are, with all your flaws and wrinkles, then you are on the path to enlightenment. If you can go for a whole day without lying to yourself and see that your true journey, roadblocks and all, is right there in front of you, then you are approaching self-acceptance. And that feeling of acceptance will both comfort and enliven you.
If you work on yourself every day, and it starts to feel like you should be paid for the great advice you’ve been receiving (from yourself), that’s progress. But the payoff is in the work itself, which just makes you feel and act better. You will begin to see that we are all flawed beings, and your journey through this life will never be perfect and neither will anyone else’s. Judgment will no longer be something that burdens you, and you will shy away from it in others.
Many people wake up every morning and struggle emotionally throughout the day just to keep themselves seemingly afloat. When it’s a struggle to not be self-critical or critical of others, that’s a tough way to go through life. Although it can be difficult to see a way out, there always is one. The key is to be willing to change.
We need to take responsibility for our own moods and lives. We can let the pain of the past or the fear of the future run us, or we can live in the present and know that we are, at this moment, doing just fine.
If you struggle emotionally, remember Kubler-Ross’s words: “That’s okay.” All you have to do is keep moving and paying it forward—that’s how to make your life and the world a better place. It’s such a simple idea, yet it can be hard to keep as a constant in our thoughts and behaviors—and that’s okay, too.
When you can accept that you and your life are a work in progress, you will be easier on yourself and everyone around you. Think of it as a return to civility, to what used to be considered normal behavior, where mutual respect and dignity were part of our collective conduct. If you can visualize what that feels like, and take it in, that’s the beginning of change.
As you start to change, you will have a positive influence on those around you, and you will just feel more alive. It requires nothing more than your desire to make things better, and a little self-direction.
At times, it’s seemed as though life contains an endless supply of days.
I thought this for sure when I was younger. It didn’t matter how long I held a grudge or how long I waited to do something I wanted—there would be an unlimited pool of other opportunities. At least, that’s what I thought back then.
Maybe it’s a rite of passage from childhood to adulthood, the moment when you realize life happens now and that’s all you’re guaranteed. It doesn’t really hit you when you merely know it intellectually, like you know your ABCs, state capitals, and other concrete facts.
It hits you when somehow you feel it. Your health declines. You lose someone you love. A tragedy rocks your world. It isn’t until you realize that all life fades that you consider now a commodity, and a scarce one at that.
But maybe that’s irrelevant. Maybe living a meaningful, passionate life has nothing to do with its length and everything to do with its width.
