How To Avoid “Free” Stuff Scams

Sadly, not every “free stuff” site out there is as great as it seems. There are some scams you need to look out for. Before you sign up for an online free sample service, keep these tips in mind:

1. A free trial isn’t the same as a free sample. If you ever have to put your card number down to get a sample of a product, they are probably going to charge you for continuing the service later on. Never sign up for “free” services that require your credit card information.

2. Do your research! If a website is really as good as it claims, there will be positive reviews of it online. Check out a few reviews from other people who have tried the service before you sign up.

3. Time is money, too. A lot of “free stuff” services out there require you to fill out surveys or questionnaires in exchange for the products — that’s fine, but the amount of time you have to put into surveys might not always be worth it for the stuff you’re getting. Again, make sure you read the reviews of any freebie site before you sign up.

4. Follow or “like” your favorite brands on social media. They’ll probably post their legit freebie deals and giveaways, so you can check if something sounds too good to be true.

5. Never give out more information than necessary. A free sample service will require your email, name, and address — and that’s it. If you’re asked to put down your social security number or a credit card, it’s probably a scam.

Why Wait — It’s Free!

Ready to start getting free stuff by mail? Take a look through all the sites mentioned on this list and pick the ones that sound right for you! It’s super easy, and it puts totally free stuff right into your hands.

Since all the sites listed here are free, why not sign up for as many as you can now? The more services you sign up for, the more freebies you’ll get on a regular basis.

A vending machine is an invaluable, yet totally frustrating piece of equipment. It’s a godsend whenever your tummy’s growling or you need an ice-cold drink on a hot summer day. But when something gets stuck inside or the machine flat out malfunctions, it quickly becomes your archenemy. And when you’re broke, it’s basically just one big tease.

So I get why so many people are interesting in hacking soda and snack vending machines. While it could be considered stealing, hacking a vending machine feels more like retribution, punishing it for all those times it did you wrong. But how does one actually hack a vending machine?

There are many different brands and types of vending machines (coin-op, credit/debit card, contactless (RFID, NFC), etc.), so there’s no Konami code that will work on all of them, and hitting or kicking it will only get you so far. You could use a drill and screw, but only if you want to get caught.

Below are some hacks that may work for you. Some look like legit ways to break into a Coke or candy machine, while others may be too good to be true. It’s up to you to decide. (Report back with your success or fail stories.)

1. The Code for Free Nesquik Drinks

If you’re by a coin-operated Nesquik vending machine, next time you need a cool, refreshing chocolate milk, try using this code for a free drink: 44455544455. The numbers correspond to the 4th and 5th drink option button. After inputting them, just select your drink. More info here. (Code 137137137 might also work on older models with keypads.)

2. The Take-Your-Cash-Back Trick

For the thief on the go, all you need is some paper money and packing tape. Just like the old coin-and-string trick (which has been shown time and time again not to work), you stick the tape at one end of the bill and insert it into the machine. Once the machine has registered the dollar amount, use the famous pull-out method and you’ve got yourself a free drink! And if you’re feeling especially sinister, forget the drinks and snacks—once the machine has registered a dollar amount, hit the change button. More info here.

3. Get Free Change Out of Soda Machines

If it’s the dough you’re looking for and you’re near an older soda machine (Coca-Cola, in this case), look no further. Press the code 432112311, then hold down the change lever until you hear the sweet clinkity-clink of coin raining down. This method is perfect for laundry day when you’re short a couple quarters. More info here.

4. Set Your Own Price (e.g. $0) For Pepsi

You know those newer Pepsi machines with the really big buttons? You might be able to get a free drink by using this trick. This will enable you to set the price for the drink, and zero seems as good a price as any, right? More info here. (Code 42313214321 might also work on other machines.)

5. Trick Conveyor Belt Coke Machines

Pepsi aren’t for everybody, so if you’re a Coke fan and come across the conveyor belt machines, this one is for you. Insert money and choose your drink, then stick your hand in the machine and push against the door to confuse it. Once it gives you your money back, keep repeating this process until you have all the drinks you want. More info here.

How to get free stuff

6. Trick Older Snack & Soda Machines

Just like the in the Coke machine hack above, this one requires you to push up on the door (or gate) at the bottom to make it think it didn’t dispense anything even though it really did. After a short wait, you can select another item or get a refund with the coin return mechanism. We tried this and it didn’t work, so your mileage may very. More info here.

7. Trick Gumball Machines into Taking Pennies

While originally inspired for vending gumball machines in the UK, this one can potentially work anywhere, but you’ll also need a bit of luck (and probably an older vending machine). The concept is simple, take a small coin, then wrap layers of foil over it to make it seem like a bigger and more valuable coin. More info here. (It can also work with electrical tape, as seen below.)

8. Use Fake Paper Coins

Much like the tinfoil/tape process, you can trick a candy machine with a paper or cardboard coin, but realistically, you’ll need a fairly old vending machine for this to have a shot (if even then. we’re a little suspicious). You can also try this with parking meters as well, but again, most coin mechanisms are too smart for this, but you never know. More info here.

9. Have Some Pure Luck

Some older vending machines have a glitch (which is probably well fixed by now) that will return a ripped dollar bill to you while still giving you credit for it. If only this could work with a cut credit card and a store card reader. :/

Did Any of Them Work for You?

While some of these could really work with the right machine, we have our doubts about others. What about you. which ones are real and fake? If you tried any, let us know if you succeeded or not in the comments below (don’t forget. if there’s no video, then it didn’t happen).

How to get free stuff

The Freecycle Network is a website where you can get all kinds of free stuff in your area or give away items that you don’t need or want anymore. It’s really a great way to get free stuff but also a great way to reuse something that might have ended up in a landfill otherwise.

Types of Free Stuff You Can Find on Freecycle

You can find just about anything for free on Freecycle! Whether you’re looking for free furniture, baby stuff, collectibles, craft supplies, kids’ clothes, or even free books, you’ll find them plus a whole lot more on Freecycle.

With Freecycle, someone’s trash is indeed someone else’s treasure.

How To Join Your Local Freecycle Group

Visit Freecycle and enter your city and state and click Go to see a list of Freecycle groups in, or close to, your town.

Click on the town’s Freecycle group you’d like to join. You can join up to five Freecycle groups, so if you live close to other towns, you may want to join those groups as well. Keep in mind that the more groups you belong to, the more free stuff you’ll have access to.

If it’s your first time using Freecycle, it’s a good idea to read the sticky note at the top of the group forum to get more details on how to use your city’s Freecycle board and the rules and etiquette for the group.

There are two categories of posts at Freecycle, people offering items and people requesting items. Freecycle makes it easy to find whatever type of post you are looking for. Use the orange tabs at the top of the page to view the “Offers” and the “Wanteds” or the “All Items” tab to see everything that’s being offered for free and requested for free.

Before you can do anything other than browse, you’ll need to create a free account at Freecycle or log in to an existing one. Keep in mind that some groups accept new members automatically while other groups may take a few days to approve your membership. You also might be asked questions about where you live and what you’re looking to get for free before your membership can be approved.

How To Get Free Stuff From Freecycle

After you’ve been approved as a member of your local Freecycle group, you’ll receive an email telling you that you’ve been accepted. You’re now free to visit your local Freecycle group and get free stuff.

Be sure to read the member rules to read how and where to post to get the free stuff. Each group operates a little bit differently on how they want you to do things. For instance, some groups may want you to give away something for free before you request free stuff from other members. So make sure you read the rules and browse the posts before requesting any free stuff to make sure that you’re following the rules of your group. If you’re a member of multiple Freecycle groups, be sure to read the rules for each group because they may differ from the other groups you belong to.

If you can’t quite figure out how to navigate around Freecycle, they have an instructional video that will help you find your way around. Don’t be afraid to ask questions in the forums as well, most members are very helpful to new members that are looking to use the site correctly.

How To Give Away Your Stuff for Free at Freecycle

If you’d like to give away your stuff for free on Freecycle, you’re encouraged to do so.

After you’ve been accepted to your local Freecycle group, you’ll want to read the rules on how to give away your stuff. Again, each group operates a little bit differently so be sure to follow the rules.

Another Option Than Freecycle

If you’re not finding what you want on Freecycle, you can find out how to get free stuff on Craigslist. There’s a separate section just for free stuff that people are offering up.

Getting free stuff in SWTOR is easier than you might think. The idea is for the game company to give you just a taste of what $5 or $10 or whatever the price point is, will get you. In return, the company hopes you will buy more. Being part of a single income family myself, I know every little bit helps. If you don’t have a job, or aren’t old enough to get one yet, this is a golden opportunity. Below are completely safe and legitimate ways to get free stuff in SWTOR. For the purposes of this article, free stuff can mean two things. In game currency – free Cartel Coins, or free in-game items. These strategies work for new, returning, and current players.

Free Cartel Coins

In SWTOR, getting free Cartel Coins is easy. Some you can get in game, some you can get out of game, and some you can just sit and have delivered.

Security Key

By hooking up a security key to your account, you will get free Cartel Coins every month. Your account will also be a lot safer from hackers. Subscribers have a big advantage over free accounts when it comes to getting free Cartel Coins. Subscribers can download the free swtor security key app from Google Play or the App Store. You can use this app as a security key, even if you unsubscribe later. Physical security keys are no longer available .

Achievements That Reward Cartel Coins

Certain Achievements also grant free Cartel Coins. They don’t offer a lot each (20-30), but there are 880 Cartel Coins available from the following achievements:

  • Flashpoint Master: Complete all normal mode flashpoints.
  • Flashpoint Master (Hard Mode): Complete all hard mode flashpoints.
  • Ironed Out: Defeat all bosses in The Esseles flashpoint (Normal).

  • Warzone Veteran: Play 50 Warzones.
  • Warzone Expert: Play 100 Warzones.
  • Fleet Admiral: Play 1000 GSF games.

Refer-A-Friend

The Refer-A-Friend program grants subscribers 600 free Cartel Coins if they refer a friend that later subscribes. This does require you to be a subscriber, but there are no other catches. More on the referral program below.

Promotional Giveaways

SWTOR has started giving away code links for its cantina tours. The most recent code gets you a free, unique, mount, and an XP boost. Previously you got a mount and a random cartel market item. These codes are given away to players that attend the cantina. These players give them to their friends, who can then give out their own codes. They spread like wildfire, so you can easily get them for free. I post all my links to my twitter account.

  • LOTSofSWOTR – Code for release of the latest expansion: Expires July 15 2021

Other Free Stuff For SWTOR

The refer a friend program is a great way to get free stuff. To use a referral link, you have to create a new account, or be a returning subscriber. By using a referral link, you get several rewards:

  1. 7 days of subscription time ($3.50 value)
  2. Unlocks for each character (900 Cartel Coin value)
  3. Free server transfer for a single character (1800 Cartel Coin value)

Referral links are easy to get, but only subscribers can give referral links. The person giving you the referral link gets 600 Cartel Coins, so try finding a friend that is a subscriber. You can also ask in-game through general chat, SWTOR forums, or look on places like Reddit. The SWTOR subreddit has regular threads with referral links. They are easy to find. You can use a new referral link every 90 days after your last day of subscription. Referral Link

Returning Player Offers

SWTOR commonly offers incentives to resubscribe. Just recently I got an offer for an extra 500 Cartel Coins (on top of the normal monthly stipend), a cool looking speeder, and a mini pet if I subscribed by a certain date. There was also another offer for the space expansion at the same time, so I subscribed and got both sets of rewards. You can keep a check on the SWTOR website for offers like these, or follow me on Facebook or Twitter. I keep an eye out every day for stuff like this, and I will let you know when offers like these pop up.

Free Is For Me

Every method above is completely legitimate and safe. They are offers directly from SWTOR, and not a third party. I do not advocate trying to get free Cartel Coins from third party sites, as they likely just want to steal your login info. I’ll update this page if I find more ways to get free stuff. You update the comments if you find more ways to get free stuff.
