How to get a dwa license

Apply for the DWA licence with your local council. In most cases, you can visit your council's website and apply for the 2-year DWA licence online, or print a copy you can mail or fax to the council. Enter your name, contact information, and other pertinent applicant details. Provide contact information for any other people involved with keeping, feeding, or handling the animals. Submit the details about each animal within the DWA category on the application. Typically this will be the number of animals, the species, and where the animals will be held.[2] X Research source Pay for the veterinary inspection and licence. Your council may have specific inspection requirements before approval and payment take place. Not only may your premises be inspected, but the animal itself may need a final wellness check.[3] X Research source Typical payment is somewhere in the neighborhood of £200-£350. Renewal fees are often discounted. In some cases, they run roughly £100 less than the original application.[4] X Research source Some licences require either a Veterinary Surgeon or Secretary of State approval. The fees for services are discretionary, and may be a reason someone chooses one vet over another. Ask for an estimated cost before having anything done or receiving an invoice.[5] X Research source Receive your DWA licence from the local council. After the local council has reviewed and processed your application, they will provide you with a DWA licence. It may take several weeks for you to receive your DWA licence depending on where you reside in the UK. Find your animal on The Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976 (Modification) Order 2007. The 1976 Act is the authority on whether or not your animal requires a DWA. The list is extensive and covers a wide variety of marsupials, primates, carnivores, and elephants.[6] X Research source The modification made in 2007 added a few types of snakes, dingoes, and the Middle eastern thin-tailed scorpion to the dangerous animals list. Animals previously considered dangerous, but now reclassified, include, but are not limited to, a few smaller primates like squirrel monkeys, porcupines, various coatis, and hybridized cats. Consult with your local council regarding DWA licensing. Your local council will provide information about the DWA licensing requirements in your area. They will provide you with the information such as: Details about the application process Licence conditions Associated laws and regulations Determine if you will own the animal commercially. If the animal is not for personal use, there is a chance the DWA is non-applicable. If you plan to use the animal for scientific purposes covered by the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986, or if the animal is to be used in any of the following capacities, the DWA is not required:[8] X Research source Displaying the animal in a zoo Training the animal to work in a circus Animals sold in a pet shop[9] X Research source Verify that you meet the basic applicant criteria. Although the criteria will vary for each council, you must meet specific age requirements, typically 18 years old. Additionally, you must own insurance, have the ability to pay for various vet bills, and have the commitment to being the legal owner of all animals to be included on your licence. Ensure there are no other prohibiting factors. Based upon your location, there may be public interest grounds for disapproval. If owning the animal would be a nuisance or safety concern, or if you are deemed an unfitting owner, you may be denied. At the time you request a DWA licence application, you will be asked to determine whether or not you can truly maintain these types of animals based on a series of considerations. Verify whether you will have the proper amount of space and facilities needed to house the animals, including exercise space and ability to accommodate adult-sized animals. Consider whether you can financially support your animals during their lifetime. You will need to pay for food expenses and possible veterinarian bills on a routine basis. Depending on the animals you plan on housing, you may need to practice certain disposal methods to meet standards enforced by your local environment agency. Ensure the ability to store any feed in a manner that will not attract, and is protected from, vermin of all kind.

A Dangerous Wild Animals (DWA) licence allows you to keep animals considered dangerous or threatening to the general population in your home or on your property. Once you’re certain of the ownership prerequisites, and go through the process of DWA approval, you’ll be ready to have the wild animal in your home.

How to get a dwa license

All Operator Certification Program exams are administered via Computer Based Testing (CBT) through our testing vendor PSI. Once you receive an examination approval letter from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), you may go to http://online.goamp.com or call 855-557-0617 to schedule your exam. California State University Sacramento (CSUS) Course Change

Beginning September 20, 2019, CSUS has dramatically changed their enrollment of the Operation of Wastewater Treatment Plants Volume I. The new Operation of Wastewater Treatment Plants Volume I is now divided into three separate enrollments. Operation of Wastewater Treatment Plant Volume I still consists of only one book. However, completion of all chapter trainings are broken out into three enrollments (Enrollment “A”, Enrollment “B” and Enrollment “C”). A student must complete all three enrollments (A, B and C) in order to meet the FDEP requirements for completion of Volume I.

There is no change to the Operation of Wastewater Treatment Plants Volume II. And as a reminder, certificates of completion for both volume I and II are required to sit for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Class C exam.

Attention! GED Program

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Operator Certification Program, accepts only General Educational Development (GED) issued by the American Council on Education through an approved GED administrator. In Florida, the approved GED administrator is the Florida Department of Education through its network of public schools and adult education centers. (Please note: Depending on your location, some testing centers are paper or computer based. Enter your zip code under Testing Center Information.)

  • CEU Requirements – If you have not completed your required amount of continuing education, you should begin making arrangements now! Please do not wait until the last minute when all classes are full and unavailable. You may search the status of your CEUs.
  • CEU Splitting – Please note that the splitting of CEUs is no longer allowed. An example of this would be a management course worth 4.0 CEUs. These CEUs cannot be split into 2.0 for water and 2.0 for wastewater if you are dually licensed. If you have any questions regarding this, please call the Operator Certification Program at 850-245-7500.

You may now renew your license online and pay with your credit card. It’s fast and simple. In addition to using this site to renew your license, you may also check the status of your license(s) and CEUs and verify your current mailing address. All you need is your pin number which is printed on the renewal notice that was mailed to you. Your employer may also use this site to renew your license(s) with the company credit card. Once your license has been renewed, we will mail your license to you within 4 to 5 weeks.

Licensing Process

Florida statutes require anyone who operates a drinking water treatment plant, domestic wastewater treatment plant and/or water distribution system must be licensed by DEP. To qualify for licensure, an applicant must meet minimum educational and work experience requirements for each class of license. A passing score is required on the exam for the type and level license desired.

Some facts about DWA keepers and animals

1) NO dwa keeper has died or suffered serious injury from their animals.

2) There has not been ANY deaths from non native venomous reptiles for over 100 years.

3) NO member of the public has ever been attacked or injured by any reptile kept under the DWA license.

4) There are an estimated 3’000 dog bites a years, MANY affecting innocent members of the public. There are also several deaths per year caused by dog attacks.

The Dangerous Wild Animals Act was introduced in the UK in 1976, with the intention of protecting members of the public from any dangerous animals that people may wish to keep as pets. The idea of the DWAA was in principal a very good one, unfortunately it was hijacked into an animal welfare / protection policy with many animals that do not fall into the ‘dangerous to the public’ criteria (certainly not when compared to any large dog!) included onto the schedule.

The other ‘grey’ area of this act is the fact that there is NO written document that can be used in deciding if somebody has the suitable knowledge or facilities to keep animals covered under the act, with the Local Authority having the final decision on if you will be granted a license or not. In fact some LA refuse to issue DWA licenses POINT BLANK and when challenged will go to court or if they do back down, introduce conditions and fees that make it almost out of reach for most people, this is of course totally unlawful and NOT what the DWAA was introduced for. Each LA is free to decide how much to charge for the license, figures I gathered some years ago ranged from �44 up to �1600 per year! (Fire arms license costs less than �50 for 5 years!). You are also required to have Public Liability insurance for �1,000,000 (not needed if you own a shot gun or fire arm!).

I strongly believe that the DWA needs to be re-formatted into a 3 tier system an example for reptiles would be Level 1 – Gila Monsters, Dwarf Caiman, Certain Rear fanged snakes, Level 2 – Vipers and Pit vipers, Level 3 Elapids etc. Each level would require a different set of protocols to be met, ranging from Level 1, escape proof, locked cage on a secure base. Up to level 3 which would require a purpose built room, uncluttered, escape proof, 2 door entry, alarmed, with 2 years DWA experience. I will expand this in more detail at a later time.

For now, with the DWA act as it is, I have listed the following protocols that I would suggest is a common sense approach.

Housing – Vivariums must be of sound construction, with lockable access points. Glass where used should be toughened. The vivarium must be on a secure base that will not topple if knocked. The vivarium should be of adequate size for the animal/s kept within. Air vents should be secure and fitted in such a way that prevents them being ‘pushed’ out from the inside.

Handling – Full range of suitable tools, including secure carrying box and holding container (for use while cleaning vivarium etc).

Experience – A good knowledge of general reptile husbandry should be demonstrated backed up with a ‘buddy system’, this would mean that you must have the name and phone number of an existing DWA holder that you can call upon if needed.

Placing the Vivarium – Depending on the animals kept, it can range from a spare bedroom to purpose built room in the garden. The key points should be, an uncluttered room, no means of escape unless via the door or open window, in the case of more dangerous animals i.e. elapids and some vipers, windows should be screened and a double door entry would also be needed. A spy hole or viewing panel in the door would also be advised.

As you can see, with such an array of possible animals kept, it is very difficult to come up with sensible protocols that are not unnecessary (i.e. screened windows for dwarf caimans is just pointless!) The above is just my opinion and recommendations that I would advise somebody. I have had over 15 years of DWA reptile experience ranging from working in shops / importers to keeping DWA in my own collection. I have also been involved in wildlife documentary programmes involving venomous reptiles.

The early learning program licensing process begins with an online orientation, where the information will be available in two e-learning modules. The online modules are available in English, Spanish and Somali.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the first module, you will:

  • Have a general understanding of why quality early learning care is important
  • Be able to identify the different roles within the early learning community
  • Be able to identify the different licensed facility types
  • Identify the ages that early learning programs serve

We closed driver licensing offices in late March due to COVID-19 concerns. We began to reopen offices in June with 13 locations.

Appointments are only for services that you can’t get online, by phone, or by mail. Please be patient, as appointments are very limited.

Services offered by appointment only include:

  • First-time driver license, including knowledge and skills testing (where offered).
  • First-time identification card.
  • Enhanced driver license (EDL) and enhanced ID (EID).
  • Name change on license/ID.
  • Instruction permit.
  • Commercial driver license (CDL) and commercial learner permit (CLP).
  • Agricultural permit, including knowledge and skills testing (where offered).
  • Reinstatement, including knowledge and skills testing (where offered).
  • Occupational restricted license.
  • Driver training school instructor test.

Please keep in mind that the REAL ID enforcement date is now Oct. 1, 2021. There will be plenty of time to get a compliant document, such as an EDL or EID, before then.

Most residents, including those under age 24 and over 70, can go online to renew their:

  • Licenses.
  • Identification cards.
  • Vehicle registrations.
  • Instruction permits.

We extended driver licenses and instruction permits that expire March 1 – June 30, 2020 for 180 days. We also extended those expiring July 1 – Sept. 30, 2020 for 90 days.

Residents can now apply for a first-time instruction permit online.

These extensions also apply to commercial driver licenses (CDL) or commercial learner permits. If your CDL/CLP expires on or after March 1, 2020, we extended its expiration date to Sept. 30, 2020. The extension applies to all CDL types and endorsements.

When more offices will reopen

We’re working within the governor’s Safe Start guidelines to reopen all 55 driver licensing offices. We want to do this as soon – and as safe – as possible. The order of reopening is being determined by factors including:

  • Geographic location.
  • Community access.
  • Volume history.
  • Capacity for safe delivery of service.
  • Weekdays open.
  • Staffing considerations.

Reduced hours due to furloughs

The Governor has ordered mandatory furlough days for state employees. Because of this, we are reducing our days of operation. Reopened offices will close:

  • Friday, July 10.
  • Friday, July 17.
  • Friday, July 24.

We will also close one weekday per month from August – November.

Vehicle Licensing Offices

  • Vehicle tabs.
  • Boat decals.
  • License plates.
  • Reports of vehicle sale or transfer of ownership.
  • Vehicle/boat registrations.
  • Trip permits.
  • Replacement titles.
  • Disabled parking placards/tabs.
  • And more.

VLOs are not staffed by state workers and are not affected by furloughs.

How to make an appointment

Our online, phone, and mail-in services are the first option in most instances.

If an office visit is your only option, you can make an appointment online or call 360.902.3900 for help scheduling one. Appointments at the 16 newly reopened offices will be available starting July 10.

The scheduling system will offer the first available dates. If appointment slots are full, try again the next day. We can’t edit or move an appointment once you make it. If you need a different appointment, you’ll need to cancel your existing one and start over.

When you make your appointment, you’ll get an email confirmation. It will give you instructions on how to check in to a “virtual lobby” when you get to the office. Customers will wait in their vehicle until they get invited into the building. There will be signage.

If you show up without an appointment, you’ll get scheduled for a return visit or redirected as needed.

Health and safety precautions

We are implementing several health and safety practices at driver licensing offices, including:

All licensees must submit the following 30 days prior to the anniversary date of the license:

  • Child Care Licensing Fee
  • Declaration of Compliance before licensee’s anniversary date.
  • All background check applications on the established schedule — every three years and when a new person is hired or, for family homes, moves into the home, or a household member turns 13.

Child Care Licensing Fees

There is an annual fee to obtain or maintain a child care license. RCW 43.215.255 authorizes the charging of licensing fees and setting the fee amounts. Fee increases must be approved by the Legislature before a new amount may charged.

Fee Amounts

  • Family home child care: $30 per year
  • Child care centers and school-age center programs: $125 per year for the first 12 children, plus $12 per year for each child after the first 12, up to the maximum number of children the facility is licensed to care for (the “licensed capacity”).

Notifications

The DSHS Financial Services Administration (FSA) sends annual fee notices to licensees about 90 days before the annual license fee is due. If you did not receive an invoice, contact your local Early Learning office before you mail a check. Without an invoice, FSA cannot determine where to apply your payment, and you may not be credited. Staff can give you the proper information to include with your payment.

Many vehicle and vessel licensing offices (VLOs) are providing services in person, online, and by mail during the COVID-19 pandemic. VLOs handle:

  • Vehicle registrations, tabs and license plates.
  • Boat registrations and decals.
  • Reports of sale.
  • Transfer of ownership.
  • Trip permits.
  • Replacement titles.
  • Disabled parking placards or tabs.

In most cases you can renew your registration online or by mail. If you need to renew in person, it’s a good idea to check a VLO’s status and call ahead.

Service updates

Title transfers

You can transfer a title in person. You should call ahead to find an office to assist you. If you’re unable to transfer a title within 15 days for COVID-19-related reasons, we will waive the late fee.

Moving to Washington or registering your first vehicle

You must have a valid Washington driver license to register your vehicle for the first time in Washington. While our driver licensing offices are closed, you won’t be able to:

  • Get a first-time Washington driver license, or
  • Obtain initial registration for your vehicle.

Visit a vehicle licensing office to request a temporary registration permit. This will allow you to legally drive.

Dealer permits

If you have an expiring temporary dealer permit and you can’t get license plates from the dealership, you can request a temporary registration permit from a vehicle licensing office. You may need to request these permits multiple times, depending on how long dealerships are closed.
