Kids’ playhouses are where childhood memories are made. Are you thinking of creating your own playhouse for children? Check out these tips and follow the links for free plans.

I’m 40 now, and I still remember our childhood playhouse with great fondness. There’s something almost right-of-passage about a kid having a playhouse. It’s like going down the rabbithole, you know? No adults!

One of my dearest friends finished his kids’ playhouse last year, sacrificing weekend after weekend to get the thing made, and I think he doesn’t regret a moment of it. It’s something his kids will enjoy for years yet.

If you are thinking of giving your kids the best gift, a playhouse, here are some great free projects with complete game plans that you can find online.

There is no shortage of ideas for children’s play projects

It’s a big world of free designs on the internet, and this is just the start of it! Scour the web for your upcoming projects and you’ll have no shortage of ideas. If you’re looking for supplies for your project we have a large selection of good hardwood, cheap laminate planks and LVT tile that are perfect for a stylish kids’ playhouse.

Free game plans for kids to inspire you

1. Platform with swings

If you’re looking for something that’s open and geared for younger play, this is a great plan. It includes two swings and is a large free-standing platform designed to get around a tree. With no walls to hide kids in, this is the perfect place for a 3 year old to become a climbing and swing champion!

2. Playground with a full meal

Complete with a slide and climbing wall, this is similar to the playhouse my friend’s kids now love. With something this attractive, you’ll never feel like the playhouse is a eyesore in the yard, and your kids will be proud of the beautiful space that’s all their own.

3. A small theater

Little people like little spaces, so as small as this playhouse is, it’s definitely going to be a hit with the little ‘uns in your life. Incredibly, this clever design from Ana White just takes advantage of single plywood sheet, making sure it would be a treat, unlike my friend’s $ 1,800 theater!

4. The Princess Theater

There’s an unmistakably girly-feel to this design, but in the best way. If your daughter’s looking for a perfect spot to play and serve tea and do all those things, this is a pretty good little place for that. Another small-footprint design, it’s something that’ll fit in yards of all sizes.

It was the kind of space I liked as a kid – where you could see up to about 60 feet but hey! It seemed like the kind of outpost fort you’d have in the Wild West, and that was my kind of deal. Imagine there’s a wave of incoming attackers, or the ground is crawling with snakes — have no fear! The outpost is the perfect place to take a look and plan your attack. To your posts!

5. House on pallets

I’ve seen some pretty funny plans for pallet “playhouses” that look like the skidrow of playhouses, where you’d be as likely to find a streetkid living covered in cardboard for warmth. I’m all for upcycling, but it doesn’t need to look like you hauled it out of the trash. One example is this absolutely fantastic little theater, which consists only of open pallets used as reclaimed wood. You wouldn’t know it, would you? It’s beautiful!

6. Strong fun

The intersection of a fort with a theater is a little big project. I love the corrugated plastic that turns the roof into a giant window, making the interior fun and bright to play with. whenyou’re a bug-phobic little girl like I was, the dark corners can be frightening spaces! No problem.

Preliminary treatments

When you collect your log cabin for delivery, a final finish is unlikely to be applied. The vast majority of log cabins delivered for interior assembly will be dipped or pressure treated with a water-based preservative and the buyer will be responsible for the final decorative and / or protective coating.

The implementation of such plaster and its subsequent maintenance are important from the point of view of extending the life and preserving the appearance of the house, and most likely will be a condition of any manufacturer’s warranty.

The water-based dipping treatment will stop rotting and the insects attacking the wood for a period of time, but usually no longer than it takes to complete the manufacturing process and supply the house. Dipping, as the name suggests, is simply the immersion of building components in a preservative, creating a protective support layer on the surface of the wood. Pressure treatment is more effective because the preservative is applied under pressure and should penetrate deeper than the surface. This may be enough to protect the wood from rot or insect damage for several years.

Regardless of whether the house is delivered by dipping or pressure treated, it is recommended that a final finish be applied just before assembly or immediately after delivery if assembly appears to be delayed. Otherwise, the wood will soon take on a gray and weathered appearance, making finishes difficult to apply and reducing their effectiveness and durability.

Decorative and protective treatments

When it comes to using subsequent treatments, there are several possibilities. Pre-delivery treatment is unlikely to seal the surface of the wood, so you will have the option of applying an additional water-based or solvent-based preservative. This shouldn’t be necessary if the house has been pressure treated, but if only a dip treatment has been applied and you have the time it is definitely worth considering adding an additional preservative before applying any decorative finish.

Preservatives

You will have the choice between a water-based preservative or a spirit. We recommend that you apply a spirit-based preservative to the exterior of your building and may be required before the manufacturer’s warranty applies. Preservatives na bazie spirytusu są bardziej skuteczne i trwalsze niż ich odpowiedniki na bazie wody i są dostępne zarówno w postaci bezbarwnej, jak i kolorowej. If you also plan to paint your log cabin in bright, cheerful colors, apply a clear preservative and make sure the wood can be painted after processing. It will be possible with most of the treatments available.

Color treatments

Many colored wood finishes are available, mostly intended for sheds, fences, and garden furniture. They are generally suitable for treating and decorating log cabins, although they are often water-based and will likely require more frequent reapplication than a high-quality exterior paint – a year is usually recommended.

However, these colored treatments are generally quick and easy to apply, but be sure to check that the treatment you choose is not intended for use on raw lumber only. To comply with safety regulations, your log cabin will be planed with a smooth finish. If you choose a treatment designed for untreated and finished wood, the color is unlikely to spread evenly and the maintenance effect will be short-lived.

Paints

If you are going to paint your wooden gazebo and a high quality finish with paint usually gives the most beautiful appearance along with durability, then an exterior wood paint “system” is what you are looking for. This usually consists of a primer followed by the application of one or two glossy or satin top coats. The glossy finish will give the classic glossy finish, while the satin varnish will give the wood a softer luster.

Make sure you apply the undercoat to the final finish color. Typically you will specify a specific primer color to use with the finish you are applying. Modern water-based exterior paints last much longer than their predecessors, so don’t worry too much about water-based paints. This has the advantage of reducing the amount of fumes and making the tools easier to clean, as water can be used instead of mineral spirits. Older children can even get involved in the painting process!

To ensure a high quality finish, painted areas should be sanded with fine sandpaper after applying the primer. Although the house is smooth initially, it will be slightly rough after the first coat of paint has been applied and sanding at this stage will provide a smooth finish.

Wood stains

An exterior wood stain will provide a durable and attractive finish to your log cabin. Usually available in a variety of wood finishes, both fast-drying and more durable, slower-drying stains dry easily. Wood stains can usually be applied directly to the bare wood. Two to three coats will be required and, as with paint, the wood should be lightly sanded after the first coat is applied.

Do not hesitate!

Left alone until the theater is in use, it can easily become one of those tasks on your list that will never get done.

It is advisable, regardless of the finish chosen, to apply them to the individual elements of the house before assembly. That way, the exposed parts are less likely to be overlooked and the job will likely be easier. It’s also easier to keep children away from parts of the log house where the paint dries than in the assembled house, especially if it’s a brand new attraction!

Remember: it is enough to finish the external parts of the house. The interior can be left in natural wood, although if you want to decorate the interior, you can use wood paint. If you are planning to decorate the interior of the cottage, we recommend that you use an interior paint that is EN71 compliant or at least water-based.

After finishing the work, all that remains is to enjoy the wooden house. A properly finished and maintained log cabin will last for years and offer children many joyful and unforgettable days of outdoor play.

How to decorate your play house (wendy house)

You’re probably wondering why we would turn a childrens playhouse into a rabbit hutch? Well, long story short we were going to get rid of the playhouse as the kids just don’t use it anymore. We’ve had it for about five years and it’s been well-loved in that time but the kids are just a little bit too old for it now.

We were going to put a rabbit hutch in its place, but then I had the idea of turning it into a rabbit hutch. I did some googling and found that it’s actually pretty common for people to convert their sheds for their rabbits, as most hutches just aren’t big enough for them.

As a bit of background, we initially started with two rabbits but unfortunately one died after a few weeks. A week later, we have a new rabbit, Honey, who was only 7 weeks old. We thought that since our other rabbit, Olive, was still young and used to living with another rabbit, she would be fine. But we were wrong! They are generally OK together in the garden but in smaller spaces Olive just won’t leave Honey alone, so we had to separate them.

Luckily we had a two story cabin so we could take off the ramp and have a rabbit upstairs and one downstairs. While this worked OK, it didn’t really give them enough space and wasn’t practical long term. Therefore, turning the house into a rabbit cage was the perfect solution.

This is what the house was like before …

How to decorate your play house (wendy house)

As you can see the house was on a platform which wouldn’t have worked for the rabbits, so we started by removing the base. We therefore ordered a rabbit track, which fits perfectly into the space between the wall and the house (we have a very small garden, so space is limited!).

How to decorate your play house (wendy house)

In the house we used a cat flap so that the rabbits can access the race whenever they want.

We have removed some plastic windows and replaced them with a mesh to ensure proper ventilation in the house. We’ve also added two locks to the door to make sure nothing can get in or out.

In terms of the inside, there’s so many options and you can be as adventurous as you like with ramps and levels etc. But we decided to keep it simple enough. Abbiamo ordinato un piccolo ostello da Amazon che costava circa £ 30. It fits into the space perfectly and Honey likes to sit on top of it, it’s her favourite place to be.

And that’s it! It was really easy to do and I’m so pleased with how it turned out. Honey now lives in the theater and Olive is still in the cage, but she at least now she has both plans to herself. On the days when they don’t get a run around the garden, we do swap them over so that Olive can get some exercise in the run. I hope that eventually they’ll be able to live together but for now, it just doesn’t work. So any tips on how to tie rabbits please post my way!

How to decorate your play house (wendy house)

This competition is now closed

The gardens have become our paradise over the past 12 months more than ever. An opportunity to escape the limits of our homes and enjoy a few hours of outdoor fun (in my case, rain, sun and snow!). We have decided to invest in outdoor games that can entertain all our little ones. And at the top of the list was an outdoor playground.

These baby staples come in all shapes and sizes and in all price ranges. And not only are they cute, but they also offer hours of imaginative and active play. Who can resist inviting you to “tea” 27 times a day?

With so many options available, finding the perfect theater for your situation can be a little overwhelming. Luckily, we’ve done the hard work for you! We’ve been playing our way through the plethora of playhouses, so you can ensure you choose the very best one for your brood.

What to consider when buying a house

Space – Space ogrodowa jest po to, by cieszyć się całą rodziną, więc trzeba zdecydować, ile tej przestrzeni można przeznaczyć na domek do zabawy. Measure the area of your garden (remember, ideally it should be a flat surface where there is sun and shade and where you can keep an eye) and keep these dimensions handy when choosing your house.

Balance – Children’s outdoor playhouses are available for most budgets from cheap and cheerful to premium. Think about how much you want to invest keeping in mind the features you want to have, the longevity and the value of the game.

Durability – This is important if you want your theater to last a long time. Consider what material the house is made of. Will plastic disappear in the sun? If wood, can you protect it to make sure it lasts as long as possible? Or maybe it’s ready for processing?

installation – Although this might not be everyone’s first question, it was definitely one of mine! We’re not the best at assembling fiddly toys, so an easy to assemble model is important to us. Most playhouses are fairly easy to set up with simple instructions, although most are laid out flat. Plastic models are generally easier to build while wooden versions may require a little more skill.

Additional properties – Dalle casette di base a quelle con tutte le campane e i fischietti che ti vengono in mente, è importante considerare quali caratteristiche includerà la tua casetta. Slide? Swing? Playground structure? More than one level? You can choose stable doors, lounge doors, opening windows, doorbells, letterboxes and more. Remember to match the features and play space with your children’s age to ensure it is the most suitable. You want to maximize the value of your game.

Here is our selection of the best outdoor playhouses for children:

Our largest garden sheds

Our larger log cabins have a fantastic play kitchen. There’s a cooker and sink, both set into a premium cedar kitchen counter. The washbasin has swivel taps and a movable tap. The kitchens are equipped with rotating knobs that rotate the hob on and off. The kitchen also has accessories for pots, pans and cutlery that hang neatly over the stove.

The playhouse roof is 120cm high, ensuring there’s ample headroom for most children whilst playing. I bambini più grandi adoreranno inginocchiarsi o sedersi su una panca indipendente in modo che possano unirsi al divertimento e giocare con gli amici o i fratelli più piccoli.

The bar counter has a vinyl canopy that protects from rain or sun. Plus a freestanding bench, 86 cm long, 30 cm wide and 31 cm high.

Our largest playhouse measures approximately 165.7cm x 109cm and is part of our largest playgrounds, including swings and tubular or simple slides.

Our homes for the little ones

Our smallest house is slightly smaller and measures approximately 109cm x 109cm. This is still enough for several children to play together.

The bar counter has a vinyl canopy that protects from rain or sun. Plus a freestanding bench. The roof of the bungalow also offers ample headroom with a height of 120cm.

The durable green plastic window frames provide a cozy atmosphere and the cottage is lined on the sides with high-quality cedar feather boards.

Fort of the raised theater

Our treehouse forts are enclosed like raised log cabins. If you’re looking for a raised playhouse with slide then this might be perfect for you and your children.

Enter the elevated cabin via a fun combo rock ladder. Features molded climbing rocks for older children and slatted hand / foot grips for younger or less skilled children. The rocks are manufactured from durable moulded plastic, making them suitable for children’s soft hands.

On the large play platform, children will find plenty of space to play safely with their friends. It measures approximately 165.7cm x 109cm for our largest forts or 109cm x 109cm for our smallest forts. They can look down on their parents and friends through plastic window frames or knock down a straight or tubular slide. Some of our playgrounds have two slides side by side for friends to compete!

Playhouses With Swings & Slides

Multi-purpose garden play equipment can prove to be extremely affordable compared to buying individual garden toys. Our playgrounds include playhouses with swings and slides.

A universal garden set with swings and slides ensures maximum use of the available space in the garden. Even if you have little space for play equipment, especially our playgrounds with tubular slides are very compact. In fact, every product in our range is less than 6m wide, so it should fit into most gardens without a problem.

The playground also has an added advantage over a traditional playhouse with a slide. The play platform of our play equipment is located 120cm above the ground. Provide a play area both downstairs in the cottage area and upstairs in the cottage. This allows for more diverse and creative games such as coffee shops, shops, theaters or pirates.

Develop life skills

Playing with your imagination is an important part of childhood. They love to tell adventure stories that give them the opportunity to explore, develop a natural enthusiasm to learn about the world around them. Playhouses provide comfortable environments for children’s play and learning to take place.

Children’s wooden playhouses can become more than a toy. Children learn best when they are in a comfortable environment. Being outdoors is natural, it gives you more space and freedom than being indoors. Where role play can be stimulated and taken to a new level of realism. These can be playhouses where children can recreate classrooms, bars and kitchens. They can decorate the interior to their liking, which may or may not be similar to yours!

This can be a place to encourage a group of children to interact with each other by learning those interpersonal skills that are so essential later in life and deciding who will go to the theater kitchen first is a serious decision. However, in a playhouse tower, you’ll find a slide will keep one busy whilst the other child cooks.

Like all of our play equipment, the playhouses are EN71 compliant, which means you can rest assured that they are completely safe while playing.

Discover the incredible Queen’s Wendy House

whenQueen she was only six in 1932, received a gift from the people of Wales that most little girls could only dream of: a large fully functioning Wendy House which consisted of a kitchen, living room, bedroom and bathroom with hot water. and cold running water, electricity and even a heated towel rail. For entertainment, Princess Elizabeth and Margaret were placed on a shelf with the works of Beatrix Potter, a mini radio and a tea set to play teas with.

Although the house was a big hit, it wasn’t without drama. After it was inspected by Queen Mother and King George VI, but before it was presented to Elizabeth for her birthday, it was damaged in a fire in transit. However, the damage was soon repaired and rebuilt in Windsor Great Park, just in time for the little princess’s birthday. The house is still nearby, on the grounds of the Royal Lodge of Windsor.
