In this crochet tutorial, we’ll dive into crochet shell stitch – a wonderful stitch for a blanket, scarf, hat, shawl, and more!

How to crochet the textured seashell stitch

The seashell stitch is a very popular crochet stitch and it’s easy to see why. This basic stitch uses simple single and double crochet stitches to create a gorgeous shell pattern.

Summary

Crochet shell stitch faq

Un punto seashell è in realtà una combinazione di un punto all’uncinetto singolo e un "guscio" di diversi punti all’uncinetto doppio, di solito 5. Il guscio e gli uncinetti singoli si alternano per creare un aspetto a ventaglio.

The edge is worked similarly to a single row of shell stitch, in this case you will be working a single crochet and then a double crochet shell. You’ll usually also work with the shell to create a corner.

Half shell is often used to start the corner of the edge of the blanket, which uses a shell stitch. Work 3 chain stitches in a chain stitch, then work 2 double crochets in the same stitch or stitch. In the hem, you would finish the round with 2 more treble crochets in the same stitch or empty space (a chain stitch of 3 would count as a but).

This is the method you will use to work the shell around the shell by working the dc shell in each corner. This alone can make a great finish for the blanket as you can see in my Hydrangea Baby Blanket crochet pattern (which is a free crochet pattern here on the blog, find the written pattern and video tutorial by clicking on the image below):

Second row:

This is the line that will be repeated for the reason. This row is very similar to the first row because you will still be working with single stitches and shells, but you start this row with half the shell and we are working the shells in single stitches from the first row.

Note: If you change colors like I do, finish the last stitch of the first row with 2 crochet eyelets, then enter a new color and continue. (Repeat this for each color change.)

First step:Chain of 3 (counts as sc), 2 sc in the first sc

The crochet shell stitch is a beautiful stitch with a lot of rich texture. It’s simple to learn and great for many different types of crochet projects. Today I’m sharing one of my favorite crochet stitches with you: the shell stitch! This point seems a bit complicated but it is really easy to learn. This is one of my favorite seams and the one I always use. I especially like the shape of the scalloped shell stitch – it’s so pretty! This stitch also creates a nice snug fabric with lots of texture and few holes. Make beautiful scarves, blankets and even washcloths. Ready to learn?

Crochet tutorial.

Row 1. Start with a row of low crochet hooks. You can start with a chain stitch and a single crochet in each chain stitch, or start with a row of single stitches. The line of strings should be a multiple of six plus one. For this example, I started with 31 single crochet stitches, which equals five shells.

How to crochet the textured seashell stitchRow 2. Begin the second row with a chain stitch and work 1 stitch in the same stitch. Then skip two stitches and work 5 double stitches in the next stitch. He skips two stitches and crochet in the next stitch. Your first shell is formed! Continue repeating skipping 2 stitches, work 5 single crochets in the next stitch, skip 2 stitches, single crochets in the next stitch until you reach the end of the row.

How to crochet the textured seashell stitch How to crochet the textured seashell stitchRow 3. Start by sewing 3 chain stitches together by working two double crochets in the same stitch and working a single crochet in the center of the double crochet in the first shell. Your first half of the shell is formed! Then work 5 double crochets in the next double crochet, then work 1 double crochet in the middle of the double crochet on the next shell. Repeat this pattern until you reach the end of the row. Infine lavorare 3 m. a nell’ultima maglia della riga precedente.

How to crochet the textured seashell stitchThe crochet shell stitch is one of my favorite stitch patterns. You can use it for many things, but I love it especially for scarves. I used thick thread and a large hook to sew a nice thick scarf in just a few hours.

How to crochet the textured seashell stitch For this scarf, I started with 19 single crochets and my scarf had 3 shells. I love the look of the seashell stitch in this chunky yarn – it’s so cozy!
