How to cite a web site in apa with no author date or page number

How to cite a web site in apa with no author date or page numberThis page contains tips from the 6th editionPublication manual.

  • Go to 7th edition Missing reference information
This page provides guidelines for cross-references of a non-authored work.
  • Go to the 7th Edition reference website examples
The website author is often the company or organization that created the website (known as the group author). This page contains examples of website references with the author of the group.

When the author of the site is not present, the title moves to the first position of the reference post:

Example:
All 33 Chilean miners were freed other a flawless rescue operation. (2010, October 13). Retrieved from http: // www. msnbc. msn. com / id / 39625809 / ns / world_news-americas /

In the text, mention the first few words of an item from your reference list (usually the title) and the year. Use double quotes around the title or an abbreviated title: (“All 33 miners of Chile”, 2010).

Note: Use the full website title if it is abbreviated with the quote in parentheses. Articles found online, such as in the example above, are not italicized in the reference entry and are not italicized, but are included in the quotes in the citation in the text, just like a newspaper or magazine article. Reports found on the web would be italicized in the reference list, as in Publication manual (6th ed.) Examples 31, 32 and 33 on pp. 205-206. They will also be italicized in the quote in the text, just like a book.

The following APA-style blog posts will also be useful:

This article describes how to quote in APA style (7th ed.) When there are no known authors for reference, or when the author is unknown or cannot be rationally identified. Before treating a link as if it didn’t have an author, consider whether the author could be a group or organization (such as a government agency, an association, a nonprofit, a company, a hospital, a task force or study group) by checking the cover or title of the page.

Citation in the text when there are no authors

APA 7 ed. uses the author’s data citation system to cite references in the text. In parenthetical citations, this structure includes the author’s last name and the publication year (with a comma separating them) in parentheses. In narrative citations, the author’s last name is incorporated into the sentence.

Citation in brackets for the source with the author:

(author’s name, year of publication)

Narrative quote for the source with the author:

Name of the author (year of publication)

If the reference has an unknown author, the title of the work replaces the name of the authorin a quote in the text.

  • In the title, each significant word should be capitalized (essentially the sentence is case sensitive).
  • If the source isis not in italics in the reference list entry, place the title in quotation marks (“”)in a quote in the text.
    • This means that it is part of a larger work (such as a magazine article in a newspaper).
  • If the title of the sourceis written in italicsin an entry in a reference list, the title of a quotation in the text must be in italics (example: books).

No author, source title in italics:

(Sourcetitle, year of publication)

(Park Avenue Estate, 2019)

No author, source title in quotes:

("Titolo della fonte", anno di pubblicazione)

("22 nuove varietà di mele", 1997)

Autore contrassegnato come "Anonimo"

"Anonimo" come cognome dell’autore:

(Anonymous, year of publication)

Citing in the literature list if there are no authors

To add a reference without an author to a list of references, firstmove the link title to the author’s position. For more information on creating citations from a reference list, see this APA citation guide.

Examples of reference lists:

Park alley in the summer. (2019).Random penguin house.

“22 new apple varieties”. (1997). Food warehouse. https: // food warehouse. com / article / 1997/22-new-apple-varieties

Autore contrassegnato come "Anonimo"

Anonymous. (2020). Sailing on the high seas. Sea life. https: // marine fauna. government

Upogovernmentkowanie listy referencyjnej w kolejności alfabetycznej dla źródeł bez znanego autora

The other bibliography items without author are arranged in alphabetical order according to the first significant word of the title.

  • Ignora le parole "A", "An" e "The" durante la compilazione dell’elenco di riferimento.
  • Begin the entry with the word “Anonymous” only if the work is signed “Anonymous.”
  • If the title starts with a number, arrange the link alphabetically as if the number were written. For example, alphabetize the number 22 as if the word “twenty-two” were spelled.

Example of an alphabetical reference list:

Anonymous. (2020). Sailing on the high seas. Sea life. https: // marine fauna. government

Park alley in the summer. (2019).Random penguin house.

“22 new apple varieties”. (1997). Food warehouse. https: // food warehouse. com / article / 1997/11 / new-apple-varietites

Where to find out more

For more information on quoting information from the Internet, please check one of the following:

Use the author’s data citation system to cite references in the APA-style text. In this system, each work used in the article consists of two parts: a citation in the text and an appropriate entry in the literature list.

How to cite a web site in apa with no author date or page number

The author–date citation system is covered in Sections 8.10–8.36 of the APA Publication manual, Seventh Edition

This tip remainedcorrectfrom the 6th edition.

  • In parenthetical citations, use an ampersand (&) between names for a work with two authors or before the last author when all names must be included to avoid ambiguity.
  • Scrivi sempre la parola "i" nelle tue citazioni narrative.

Number of authors to be included in citations in the text

The format of the citation author element in the text varies according to the number of authors and is in some cases abbreviated.

  • In case of work with one or two authors, the author’s name and surname must be included in each citation.
  • In case of work with three or more authors, the name and surname of the first author only and “et al” must be provided. in each quote (even the first quote).

The following table shows the basic citation styles in the text:

(Salas & D’Agostino, 2020)

Salas and D’Agostino (2020)

Three or more authors

(Martin and other., 2020)

Martina and other. (2020)

Author of the group with an abbreviation

(National Institute of Mental Health [NIMH], 2020)

National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH, 2020)

Author of the group without abbreviation

(Stanford University, 2020)

Stanford University (2020)

an Author Group abbreviation must be defined only once in the text, choosing the format between brackets or narration. Then use the abbreviation for all mentions of the group in the text.

Baseline citation styles exceptions

  • kiedy dwie prace w gazecie skróciłyby się do tego samego „and other.” form (write all the names needed to distinguish)
  • when many works in the work have the same author (or authors) and year of publication (attach letters to the years)
  • when the first authors of several references in the work have the same surname but have different initials (use the initials in quotation marks)

Dates in the quote

  • The year in the citation in the text must match the year in the bibliography entry.
  • Use only the year when citing in the text, even if the reference list entry contains a more specific date (e. g. year, month, and day).
  • For works with no date, use “n. d.”in a quote in the text.

Repeat a quote

When you repeat a quote, show the entire quote; For example, do not include the page number only (the abbreviation “ibid.” Is not used in APA Style). Instead, use the following tips:

Always include page numbers in the citation in the APA text when citing the source. Don’t include page numbers when referring to a work as a whole for example, an entire book or journal article.

How to list page numbers in APA?

APA in-text citation style uses the author’s last name and the year of publication, for example: (Field, 2005). For direct citations, the page number should also be provided, for example: (Field, 2005, p. 14).

Where do you put page numbers in the APA?

From time to time we get questions about how to cite material found at the Khan Academy. Journals, schools and teachers may require specific formats or have their own citation registration policy.

If you’re not sure which style guide to follow, Khan Academy recommends using the current format, which can be found in the Chicago Manual of Style (USA).

English. purdue. edu (Purdue University Online Writing Laboratory [OWL]).

Most style tutorials require the same basic information: publication and / or access date, author (s), title and URL. In some parts of Khan’s academy, the website is dynamic – what you see depends on your personal account (for example, a specific URL could lead to one exercise for me and another for you). If you need to address a specific problem with the exercise because the URL is not enough to know which one, describe the exercise in your writings.

Below are examples of some types of citations to Khan Academy materials using the Chicago Manual of Style. The examples are boxed for clarity only.

[Khan Academy, corsivo], accedi a [data nel formato correct], [URL alla home page, no https: //]

Example if the site was opened on January 24, 2017.

Khan Academy. Accessed January 24, 2017 https: // www. Khan Academy. org.

[author, if applicable, surname, name], [name of the article in quotes in the menu], [paragraph, if indicated, in section or par. and number], [Khan Academy in italics] accessed [appropriate date format], [URL, no https: //]

An example of using the entire article without mentioning the author

"Pianificazione di un progetto di programmazione".Khan Academy. Accessed January 24, 2017. https: // www. Khan Academy. org / IT / IT programming / programming / best practices / a / planning-project-programming.

Example of the whole movie without the author

Point example in a video with a famous author and content not produced by Khan Academy

If the content is not produced by Khan Academy, the Khan Academy website is considered a container.

[nickname encoder], [program name, in quotation marks], [program type, in brackets], [Khan Academy, italics], access [appropriate date format], [URL, without https: //]

Example:

For photos of the artwork, seePhoto of an artwork of which the photographer was not mentioned.

For simplicity, all images are treated as if the Khan Academy page they are hosted on were just a container. The details of the painting come first.

[Surname, name of the artist, if known], [Title, if known], [average, if known, in brackets], [year of creation, if known], [where present, if known]

[Surname, name of the author of the article, if known], [name of the article as per menu, in quotation marks], [where the image is inserted in the page], [Khan Academy in, italics], access [ appropriate date format], [URL without https: //]

If you don’t know the artist or the title, use

Untitled image, [medium, if known, in brackets], [year of creation, if known], [where present, if known]

[Surname, name of the author of the article, if known], [name of the article as per menu, in quotation marks], [where the image is inserted in the page], [Khan Academy in, italics], access [ appropriate date format], [URL without https: //]

Images on Khan Academy can be created by Khan Academy staff, modified by Khan Academy staff from another image, or be public domain images. Edited images and public domain images are assigned. Since the images on Khan Academy rarely have a title, they should be listed by description and where you found them.

Example of an image without the name and title of the artist
