Last season's "Bad Girls Club" cast: Asia, Amber, Jessica, Annalisa, Kristina, Angela, Olivia and Diamond. The Oxygen reality show is casting its new East Coast vs. West Coast season and will have an open casting call in Portland on June 11.

When it comes to reality shows, there are various categories, and assorted reasons why people agree to be on them. You've got your talent/athleticism competitions, like "The Voice" and "American Ninja Warrior"; cooking shows, like "MasterChef" and "Top Chef"; and shows that display competitors' particular skills, like "Project Runway" or "Skin Wars."

Then there's the category Oxygen's "Bad Girls Club" falls into — namely, shows that exist for the purpose of giving people who want to be on TV the chance to be on TV, no matter how badly they might come off.

With all that, you might not think "Bad Girls Club" would be interested in Portland, home of "Portlandia" stereotypes about low-key hipsters and artisan kombucha. But "Bad Girls Club" has, in fact, included Portland women in its cast before, and returns to the Rose City for an open casting call on June 11.

"Bad Girls Club" was created back in 2006 by the producers of MTV's "The Real World," on the assumption that the worst-behaved "Real World" contestants made for good TV. So, why not have a show that took "The Real World" formula of putting a group of people in a house together, stirring up the pot with partying, and letting the cameras record the fistfights, expletive-laden arguments and emotional fallout?

As executive producer Jonathan Murray said when "Bad Girls Club" launched, "In all the reality shows we've done, we've found that our most interesting characters are the bad girls. So we thought, 'Wow, wouldn't it be fun if we had a show that was entirely cast with these kind of women who play by their own rules?'"

Murray said that "Bad Girls Club" had its redeeming qualities, too. As reality-show expert Andy Dehnart wrote in a 2008 article that explored the moral dilemmas raised by reality shows, according to Murray, a goal of "Bad Girls Club" was to "educate the cast and viewers about acceptable behavior, and to show the impact it can have on others."

Despite being slammed as a show that plays to stereotypes about women of color and women from less-than-privileged backgrounds, while also peddling over-the-top catty mean girl stereotypes, "Bad Girls Club" just keeps going.

The casting note for the new season on the show's Oxygen website says:

"Bad Girls Club will bring together a cast of divas to live in a beautiful mansion. Are you independent, spirited, opinionated, outspoken or endlessly entertaining? Then you might have what it takes to be a member of the 'Bad Girls Club.'"

Martin Booker, supervising casting director for "Bad Girls Club," said in a recent phone interview that the show's gestures toward counseling and consciousness-raising are a benefit for some of the women who participate.

"A lot of the girls that come on the show, when they get out of the show, they're different people," Booker says. Being on the show may open doors for them to make personal appearances at events, and provide other opportunities.

In addition, Booker says, "Bad Girls Club" gives women who come from challenging backgrounds, and aren't affluent "Real Housewives," their own reality-show venue.

As he travels the country for casting sessions, Booker says, he talks with women who have gone through tough personal situations, and who may "have done well in school, but they don't come from money, and going to college really isn't an option for them. These are girls that are out in the world and are struggling, so they have defenses."

Women who appear on "Bad Girls Club" don't win prize money, but by the end of the experience, Booker says, many of the women "show an improvement. They've learned something about themselves. That's why the show brings in a life coach."

For the Portland casting call, Booker says he's looking for women age 21 and up who are independent, strong women, who may have overcome adversity, but also "have a little flair. They live life at a hundred percent."

Women should bring photo ID and a recent photo, and can either fill out an application online ( or do it at the casting call, Booker says. He'll see women in groups of 10, let them introduce themselves, answer questions, and Booker will watch how the women talk among themselves.

"What's their story?" he says. "Do they have something to teach, and do they have something to learn? I listen to that, and I read the applications."

Those who make the initial cut will be asked to come back the following day to be on camera for one-on-one interviews.

The Portland casting call is Saturday, June 11, and goes from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Grand Central Restaurant & Bowling Lounge, 808 S.E. Morrison Street.

The new season will film September through November, though Booker says where it will shoot hasn't yet been decided.

I went to the open casting call hoping I could be on the Bad Girls club cast. Now you may not think it’s strange or unique but it was more so. When I was at the Bad girls club auditions for season 10 I met people that you would only think came from Mars or some other foreign world. This is an experience I will never forget. I’ve seen girls attending the auditions in nothing more than a string that ran parallel to their back bone. I’ve spotted men pretending to be women and women pretending to be men. There was a bad girl there who had 100 tattoos, 100 body piercings and 100 snakes all on one body. What was really freaky was the way some of them smelled. I doubt they were really there for an audition for Bad Girls Club. I hope Oxygen will not select half of the females there as we do not know what species they are as of yet.

Season 10 Bad Girls Club Audition Videos

Ohh I just went online to watch the Bad Girls Club audition videos and I can’t believe who I saw. In the BGC casting video were a group of girls who attended the Bad Girls Club in New Orleans auditions. She is so cute and funny. I really hope she becomes a cast member on one of the season episodes. I never met someone who appeared to be so flawless in beauty and personality. Anyway I hope you guys try to attend casting calls and see some of the people that may one day embrace your TV screens! Ohh yeah and look out for me on Bad Girls Club Season 10 episodes!

The Bad Girls Club is currently on the 9th season which will now be in MEXICO. Bad Girls Club has hit some of the hottest cities in the country including Los Angeles (LA), Miami, New Orleans, & Las Vegas.

Bunim Murray productions is currently casting for season 10 of The Bad Girls Club and after BGC10 Bad Girls Club is rumored to end. Or at least go away for a while. BUT that is why this petition is being made. WE the fans/supporters of Oxygen's number 1 show "The Bad Girls Club" want to see MORE!

Ideas have been thrown around like having some of the BADDEST "bad girls" from the BGC do the whole experience all over again by taking select few girls from different seasons and putting them together.
Other ideas included having girls from every season compete for money be doing various team & individual challenges. The challenges we are referring to can be found on MTV's "The Challenege" shows, and also VH1's "I Love Money".

Being that Oxygen is the sister network to MTV this task can easily be executed because MTV has already done it a bunch of times. If the brother network can do it so can the sister network.

TOGETHER the viewers love to watch The Bad Girls Club but separately we all have our favorites of the show, BUT we can ALL agree that WE WANT MORE!

All together it is a great idea, all it needs is great commercial promo and great ads across america and it is sure to be successful.

To all that read this AND sign the petition I am grateful. ONLY together can we get this to happen.

Oxygen’s long-running reality series Bad Girls Club is holding an open casting call in Boston later this month.

The upcoming installment will feature an “East Coast vs. West Coast” theme and, according to a press release, producers are looking for “regional divas” who will “proudly represent the area they are from.”

They are also hoping to find women who are “independent, opinionated, outspoken, or endlessly entertaining,” which may be the perfect description for people from Boston. So if you’re proud to be from Southie or love to represent Revere, this may be the show for you.

Bad Girls Club previously held an open casting call in Boston last fall.

Casting directors from Bunim/Murray Productions, the creators behind The Real World and Keeping Up With the Kardashians, will be holding the auditions at Tequila Rain on Saturday, May 28, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All applicants must be at least 21 years of age in order to apply. Hopefuls who attend the casting call are also being asked to bring a recent picture of themselves, which won’t be returned, as well as a photo ID.
